ESPN Utah Jazz Player Profiles

Gordon HaywardAfter a rocky rookie season, Hayward was one of the league's most improved players in 2011-12 and seems poised to be a long-term solution on the wings for Utah. The one caveat is that he still seems to be much better suited to small forward than shooting guard, where he played most of his minutes a season ago and likely will again this season...

Millsap Millsap might be the most underrated player in the league. I love this guy. He's not a prototype 4 because he's undersized, but he's athletic, skilled and just knows how to play. He beats smaller players on post-ups, takes bigger ones off the dribble and confounds both with his midrange jump shot.

Last season was his best yet -- he averaged better than a point every two minutes, ranked sixth among power forwards in player efficiency rating, and had he been in the Eastern Conference certainly would have made the All-Star Game. The key is how broad-based his skills are: Millsap was in the top half of power forwards in every category I track except fouls per minute. All of them.

You can find the entire piece by John Hollinger at https://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/2012-13-uth-preview/utah-jazz-player-profiles

Keep in mind you must be an ESPN insider to see it all.

Concerning Burks, Hollinger says that, "The biggest weapon was his ability to draw fouls; he ranked fourth in free throw rate among shooting guards"

Regarding Jefferson, This is really interesting, "His ability to create shots without turning the ball over is truly phenomenal. Jefferson had miscues on only 4.7 percent of his possessions last season. Nobody in the history of the NBA has had a usage rate this high and turnover ratio this low. Nobody.

he's pretty much spot on about everybody. exaggerates in some cases, but he's got everybody pretty much right.

- favors is a defensive beast but still has a ways to go to be an offensive presence
- hayward is an average shooter and ball handler but passes and defends well
- he's crazy high on millsap, who he says is good at everything even though he's GREAT at fewer things
- al turns the ball over at a historically low rate for someone of his usage but also NEVER draws contact
- mo is a spot up shooter that doesn't attack the rim
- tinsley is creative and a decent mid-range threat but turns the ball over and never goes to the paint
- earl is hard-nosed but overaggressive
- jeremy does two things well: dunks and blocks
- demarre is pretty much not NBA talent
- foye is NOT a PG, but has to be respected on his shot
- burks' decision-making sucks, but has serious talent
- kanter has bad hands and never passes but is a load

oops forgot marvin. says he is passive on O (at least was in atl) and isn't the lockdown defender the hawks tried to make him.
