Evens signs 3 year 5.5 million

I've always thought that the Jazz needed to be more proactive with their restricted free agents. Granted, this is just Jeremy Evans, but maybe it's the start of a shift in strategy going forward.

in some cases it makes sense. in most cases "being more proactive with your RFA" is code for "bidding against yourself."

I don´t think he´s overpayed, but if he develops he has the potential to become underpaid. Other then some great alley-oops and throw downs, he hasn´t done much to merit a contract after this one. He must show serious improvement over the next three years.

Happy about the re-signing a little surprised initially at the amount as 5.5 seemed like a lot but then when I thought that over 3yr it only averages out to 1.83 and that is fairly low by NBA standards (and only about 600k more than I assumed he'd get 1.2mil) there isn't really any downside to the contract.

So good for him and his family and congrats, oh and wasn't he supposed to be getting married or just recently get married?

good contract for a great human. He did Jr jazz tour earlier this summer, got his braces off and is getting married in August.
Here is a link to their wedding registry at Macys if you'd like to buy the couple a gift.

Does anyone want to go in with me to purchase the Martha Stewart Ceramic Crock food storage Canister in green?

He may be too nice for the nba, he may be too skinny to play pf, but every time I watched him play he changed the game. Blocks, deflections, dunks, whatever. He got the crowd into the home games, and as a result got his team back into games. Most importantly to me he is entertaining to watch and someone I truly want to see succeed.

I'm happy for Evans. I'm not happy for the Jazz's cap. A few million dollars spent on a player that can't stay on the floor when you can have cap space is a few million dollars wasted but whatever. Infinitely worse things have happened.

Well instead of trading Millsap or Jefferson now - why not keep them until at least the trade deadline instead of having to sign another 'journeyman'.

Just sayin'

For the sake of Kanter and Favors. And having an actual offense. And emphasize transition. That's why you trade Al for whatever you can before training camp.

I'm starting to think that using the amnesty on Al might not be that bad of an idea. Someone will sign him, easing the $ hit, and I'm not sure that any team is going to trade anything other than another Al, just in a different package.

We can get atleast a first out of him. I think we could get two. I think Koc just doesn't want to.

:confused::confused::confused:

As for Jefferson, Locke said that the feeling around the league is that KOC HAS to trade one of our bigs, so the offers he's getting are crap for Al. Once the dust settles and Dallas or Houston or Milwaukee still have no players on their team, hopefully the offers will improve.

I don't see why any GM would low-ball if they want AJ. It might be good strategy for the used car salesman to pray on the weaknesses of some dumb customer, but we're talking top-notch business men here. They know that if they don't give enough value for a desired asset then they're going to lose out on obtaining it. Why lowball something you desire knowing KOC will just say no since someone else will give more?

I'd guess KOC is playing the patience game as is almost always the case in the NBA.

I don't like Jeremy Evans. He shot what, 65% for his career? And he's still getting only 0.2 TO/game? Jeremy Evans needs to wipe that cheesy smile off his face. Quit eating his mom's PB+J's. Stop playing with his family dog after a practice. He needs to get in the dang weight room and pump some glass. What is this, peanut butter hands? A rail man? What does he think he's doing?

Whoa, don't you mean 'darn'? I'm a little offended.

If they think they are in the better negotiating position they will make offers that reflect that. Once they realize that KOC is not going to trade Al for nothing and could actually enter the season with all of the bigs still on the roster they may start to make legit offers. Right now they are trying to get a feel for if there is anything else available and if they really want Al. And how much it is going to cost them to acquire him.

With Jeremy, it's a matter of using him RIGHT to take advantage of his skills. I am picturing us running a bit more fast break basketball with Mo as our PG. When Evans hits the floor; with Favors/Kanter, Jeremy, Marvin, Gordon, and Mo, we should be able to outrun teams downcourt, even after made baskets. I remember one of the Lakers teams back in Wilt Chamberlain's days had 4 FAST and no-so-big guys teamed with him. NOBODY could bottle up their fast break...

As much as I like the idea of running fast breaks there are a couple of holes I want to poke into your idea.

1) I don't think we are going to alter our game plan because of a 5th big making a little more than a million a year
2) If we wanted to push the ball more.. shouldn't we have kept Devin Harris. That is his best BBall skill.

I think Evans is on the team because he is a hard-worker who is good for chemistry. I don't think this signing foreshadows any alterations towards the Jazz's style of basketball.

It's all about using all the skills at your disposal in the appropriate personnel packages. Jeremy can run and jump better than most PF's.Would not change the whole Jazz offense. Devin could run, but was not a good passer. Running a good fast break takes good passing more than just a good driver.
