Every western contender got bigger and longer in order to compete with the Lakers, except Utah. We got smaller.

(for half the season)

Even if Al Jefferson has a great season and makes the All-Star team, does anyone really see us being able to advance any further in the playoffs? I'm not sure I see us getting passed LAL, OKC, or DAL in a 7 game series.

We added 2 wings (Bell & Hayward) and subtracted 2 (Matthews & Korver) practically a wash atleast as far as 2010-11, but getting bigger went completely unaddressed. a month away from training camp I hope KOC can pull something off bigger than Francisco Elson or Etan Thomas.

Okur isn't gonna be out close to half of season. Most recent reports imply he'll either be back early in the season or at the end of training camp.

I'm guessing you started the thread simply to use those cool team icons thingy. Because I do not see the point.

Jefferson is bigger than Boozer. The Jazz got bigger.

Yeah, I was gonna say...Boozer's replacement is bigger than Booze was. Fes will be back. Memo won't be out half the season. Koufus sucked.

I'm still not sure why the Jazz traded Koufos. I still think there's a player there, but even if he's not, he would've been a 7 foot body with some competence playing for a team that doesn't have one.

To simply put, saving about $3M.

He only makes about $1.3mil this season, which isn't THAT much more than the league minimum. If the Jazz prefer Fess and Evans, however, and only want to carry 13 this season, the savings are worthwhile (I guess).

Maybe you should adjust the expectations/title of the thread, the Jazz haven't gotten a center but they are taller. AJ is taller then Booz, Hayward is taller the KK, Bell and Mathews is a wash so just by your title they did get taller, also if Memo is out that could mean Fess (he will be back just a matter of time) will see playing time and its not a new addition but makes the team taller.
Also Ratliff will play about as much as Mnbenga and I don't think he is any taller the Mnbenga.

But I guess this is more about did the Jazz improve enough at the 4/5 spot to improve in the playoffs, going off your posts and not the title.

IATWP.

DW8 - do you really think Ratliff is a "big" addition to the Lakers? When was the last time he was a relevant player?

Aldrich may get some rebounds, but he's going to get that ugly shot of his swatted from behind by opposing GUARDS.

Ajinca? LOL!
Chandler - well, that MIGHT work out. Still, he won't get a ton of playing time.

Splitter - good addition.

Koufos sucks. Fes will be back. Okur will get around 20 mins/per in a BACKUP role. I think most posters think moving Okur to the bench is a GOOD thing. And I'm glad El Matador is taking his red cape to da Bulls.

Bottom line...is our rotation of Jefferson, Millsap and Okur, with a little Fes sprinkled in, better than Boozer, Okur and Millsap. I'd have to answer that with a resounding YES, YES, YES! Do you not understand we FINALLY have a low-post presence instead of a bunch of guys that take fall-aways, mid-range j's and 3's?

I acknowledge it would be better to have a shot-blocker/great defender instead of Goofy. We don't. How many teams around the league have a legit 5 who is good on both ends of the court? 5 or 6? And those guys are untouchable (unless you have Stern and a former Laker crony rigging a trade).

Boston proved the Lakers are vulnerable - if you can shoot over the top. I'm not saying I think the Jazz will win the West. But they did get better. I like our core 8. That's not saying it can't be improved. But KOC did a great job this off-season replacing 2 starters and a key backup. How many teams would be devasted if that happened? Instead, the Jazz are arguabbly BETTER!

I'd be ok with Etan Thomas...if I remember right he had some good yrs there with WSH before his feud with Blatche and some injuries. Who else is an option? Elson, Mbenga, and our old friend Fort? What about Amundson, is he still unsigned?

Bell is definitely taller than Wesley "6' 5" in platforms and with an afro" Matthews.

Jefferson is bigger than Boozer. Fes kinda sucks but will likely be back. Koufos really sucks. Okur didn't go anywhere.

In summation. You are wrong.

Why didn't you put a minus for Dampier and Dallas, or Mbenga and the Lakers, or put Phoenix in, since you mentioned EVERY Western contender.

Oh wait...

Big Fes will be back in the fold for the Jazz and Al Jefferson is definitely bigger than Boozer. As far as the wings go, we got a player in Raja Bell that is essentially Korver and Mathews put together so that plays out as a wash if you want but then Hayward has to be considered an addition. That kid if he can get some PT knows how to play and get himself into the action. My bet is he'll play a hell of a lot more than Kosta Doufus would've.

Rethink your analogy OP.
