Evolution - A serious question.

I know we've had this discussion before, but I think it needs to happen again.

I would honestly like to know if YOU believe in evolution. That is, do you think that Man descended from Apes? If not, why? If so, why? I expect a lot of religion to come into the conversation, but I'm not interested in a bunch of Mormon/Religion bashing, so please keep that crap out of here. I only bring this topic up for discussion because my wife and I had a very long talk about it last night, and we are like oil and water on the subject. Her ideas and beliefs are exact opposites of mine, and since I'm never wrong, I just want to see how many stupid people there are out there. So, tell me your thoughts, please. Please be specific without being too wordy (pointing at you, Loggrad) or using words/logic/science that nobody understands. (ahem, Colton, OneBrow)

Thanks in advance,

Me.

I don't have time to read all 11 pages of this thread. But to answer one question, No, I don't believe man descended from Apes. But then neither do evolutionary scientists. Apes are a different line of homonids, while humans descended from some other form of hominid. There were also other lines of homonids, (e.g., Neanderthals), which have gone extinct from which humans also did not descend. (Although Neanderthals may have interbreeded with humans, or whatever humans descended from.)

If anyone criticizes evolution by referring to humans descending from Apes, there is no clearer signal that they hav absolutely no idea what they're talking about and it is safe to disregard anything else they might say.

So what did we descend from?

This seems to suggest otherworldly intervention. Aliens come splice up their own dna (God made man in his image)with perhaps a Great Primeape? Bonobo monkey perhaps? I hear they share the same equal amount % of dna as the chimpanzees do, but their culture has a lot more sex. Even homosexual!
If they're were multiple humanoids throughout the "evolution timeline" perhaps they were trying to get us just right. Took a few tries, right?

Ask a stupid question...

Is the same true of those that support evolution and say we descended from Apes?

would you mind telling us why you're after an answer to that question? Where are you going with that answer?

Just want to see if he applies that logic to both sides is all. I thought that was fairly obvious.

it's obviously a sideshow.

Do people argue in support of evolution and use flawed claims and evidence? Yes. Do people argue against evolution and use flawed claims and evidence? Yes. AND neither of these has anything to do with evolution. That's obvious.

Great, thanks for your stance on it.

But I didn't ask you. I want to know if JEJ thinks that evo supporters that claim we came from apes should be dismissed as well.

The sideshow must go on. If I can somehow prove that there are people on both sides of the issue who are logically flawed, then maybe we'll all end up scratching our balls and realizing that nobody knows anything. What's this thread about?
fixed

You think way to highly of yourself and your arguments.

Have fun picking fights over anything that possibly could mean something that possibly could upset you. But as usual pick another target as I won't play your game.

Lolo.

Ok, I'm outta here. This thread is barreling toward Stokedzone... where everything gets painted in thick grey relativist ooze. Will someone PM me when Trout finally states his position? tia

I haven't a faintest clue what you're talking about. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is a spoof.

See above.

That's not quite right. Homonids ARE apes. Humans and other apes belong to the Order of Primates, suborder of Haplorhini, and the Hominidae Family. The separation happens at the Genus level, just above that of a species. Homo Sapiens belong to the genus of Homo, while Chimps, for example, are in the genus of Pan.

And not only is there no question that we interbred with Neanderthals, but when I had my genome sequenced, they told me what percent Neanderthal I was (1.4%). I'm Middle Eastern, so I have less Neanderthal in me than Europeans.
