What are your thoughts on the hunting of exotic/rare animals (giraffes, lions, grizzlies, wolves...)?

Now I don't mean poaching but organized hunts. Where a hunter pays an agency in Zimbabwe (for example) to go on a legal hunt. Where the proceeds are reportedly to be used in conservation efforts and the meet supposedly given to local tribes and/or the needy.

While I don't think I'd ever personally do it I don't have any problem with those that do. As long as it is well managed and not endangering rare species have at it.

I agree that careful management would be needed but this could be a beneficial thing.

Especially management of #s and types of animals annually killed, what is done with the meat and what is done with the funds.

Before responding I think we should all google (trump exotic animals) because in this bizarre election year, it has to somehow be related to Trump.

I fully support the senseless killing of animals for fun.

Why? Is there something that could be done in how the hunting is managed that would change your opinion?

I just think hunting for sport is stupid (unless there is some kind of important population control dynamic at play). Just a personal opinion/morals kind of thing.

What is the purpose of killing these animals?

Trophy

I don't support. I just don't understand killing a zebra, a giraffe, etc.
Only way I would kill an animal is to eat, to control population, safety risk.
To do it to put their head on my wall just doesn't do it for me.

Like all mammals, humans are animals. We should have management of #s for us too.

I was about to post but found this. Exactly my thoughts.

Trophies, for the hunter at least. For the countries managing it a source of revenue, exposure, population control and possibly food.

I'd say I am about Cy's level on the opposite side. Not out there encouraging and propping this up. But if done with certain controls have at it.

Fair enough

We already do. We have been having gov. organized culling on a mass world scale for decades now.

There's nothing wrong with trophy hunting if it's a true sport. Most African hunts don't seem like a sport to me. Hiring a guide for a hunt or going on a Canadian baited bear hunt or what have you doesn't seem like sport.

Hunting mule deer is a sport. It's also not any different than what they go through on a daily basis so why do people get all moral about it?

Stoked, there is a strong argument that privatizing endangered species and habitats for the purpose of hunting would lead to increased and healthier populations as the property owners would have much more of an incentive, as well as economic ability, to manage their cash crop.

I'm not sure I buy that argument but there is good merit to it as we have many examples already (for example private industry rescued bison after Roosevelt saved the last of them).

Interesting. Not sure how comfortable I'd be placing animals like lions in the hands of private corps though.

Yeah I feel the same way I think.
I know a guy that goes to Africa and shoots the animals from his helicopter and then has his "team" go get, have it mounted and shipped to his home.
Massive, massive douche.
