What's new

expected/elated/disappointed

Give your expectations for the Jazz for this season, what they'd have to do to get you truly elated, and how bad they'd have to be for you to be disappointed with the season. I'll start:

  • I expect a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs.
  • I'd be elated if they get home court advantage. Or obviously if they win a playoff series without having home court advantage.
  • I'd be very disappointed if they don't end up with a winning record.

Who's next?

This is spot on for me. I'd add that I'd be very disappointed with a losing record and simply disappointed with only 41-43 wins.

I'm pretty much the same. We need to at least make the playoffs. If things go very well, Hayward and Favors takes big steps, along with Gobert we could get home court.
Realistically, I think they make the playoffs barely after a hard fight at the end. What I am looking for is for them to not get swept like the last time. I want to win at least
two games. That would be a step. Next year obviously theyd need to win a series or two. 3 years from now go for the title.

Exactly. Was just gonna add the playoffs bit. I expect us to make the playoffs and win at least one game while competing well in the other ones. Last time was a joke. We need to see a fire and competitive spirit in Hayward and Favors this time around.

Here's a table made by RealGM and reddit user KqWIN about expected wins depending on defensive and offensive rating and point differential in the league:

Great post.

Even if we're just 21st on the offensive end and 6th on the defensive end, that's 44 wins. 20th and 3rd is 49 wins. Certainly possible. This gives me hope.

Three years ago the Jazz were three years away from being contenders...

The treadmill doesn't stop.

The Jazz are sort of young, but it's not like we've got a team full of rookies.
Three years away three years ago was a dream. Building the way the Jazz are takes longer than that. 5-6 years minimum to get the pieces in place and that is after they traded Deron and started all over again. 2-3 more years should have always been the time frame to become real contenders and not the pretenders they were with Deron, Boozer and Memo.

My dad bet me $100 that the Jazz won't win 35 games lol and for every game over 35 wins he pays me an extra $10 I didn't want to do it because it's highway robbery on my end but he insisted

I get all that really. What bugs me is when people say out of one side of their mouth how good the team and out the other how they might struggle because of how good the west is. If the team isn't there yet they aren't there yet. They can't be a good team now and fail to make the playoffs just because of how good the west is. If they really are a good team then it doesn't matter how good the west is. That's what bugs me. It's not about my unrealistic expectations, it's about people blaming lack of success on the conference and not the team.

I think you have to also consider that the jazz are still very young with core players just getting to their primes and a couple core players not there yet, and have a 2nd year head coach.

Memphis has gasol, conley, and randolph
Clipps have Blake and cp3
Thunder have ibaka, durant, and westbrook
Spurs have popovich, duncan, parker, ginobli, aldridge
Houston... Harden and howard.

If the jazz miss the playoffs it doesn't necessarily mean they are not good. It might just mean that they are young and not quite up to the level of some of these teams with star veterans that have been around longer.

The cake is in the oven and baking though. Timer just has not went off yet.

We are not all that far into the rebuild

7 seed? Bagh!

I want to be present for the look on your face when you realize the Jazz will have to blow this team up if they do not acquire star in summer draft or trade. This will happen in two years time.

They cannot make 5th or better this season in the west they are not good enough nucleus to keep together.

I am sure in two years they will not rebuild again instead will find the next Al Jefferson to plug leaking water pale and sell fans false hope. Only thing Millers know to offer is lemons packaged like Ferarri.

Millers have chance to acquire superstar but it will cost them money grubbers to much. This is why no superstar will sign. He knows Miller will not spend enough for championship. No future hall of famer wants to be John n Karled, as the players say it.

You do realise in the off-season Miller stepped down. Run by a board now and they're making the right moves. I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Depends on your definition of good.

I say being a top ten team in the league is good.
The jazz could be a top ten team in the league and miss the playoffs due to how good the west is and how bad the east is.

Missing the playoffs doesn't mean we are not good.

massive stretch. The East isn't THAAAAT bad.

Washington will be good. Cleveland will be good. Atlanta will be good. etc

Paul George will return.
Miami would make top 4 in West.
Charlotte May return to goodness without Stephens.

West have some of worst teams in league. They never talk about this is reason half west teams win so much games.

The worst team in the west playoffs might end up being better than every team in east other than the top one or two teams.
The two conferences are very lopsided

Millers turned over entire control in Utah Jazz? How much USD did they get? This should be national news. Why I did not hear of this?
You didn't get the memo? All the rest of us did.
