Exum Defense vs Bucks - Video

Compare him with how, for example, Chris Johnson played defense. Dante has better tools, length and quicker feet, but you don't see the same level of intensity, or compare him to Mike Conley. I think attitude, intensity, timidity, all these factor in his failure to live up to expectations and this is what has got to change if he is going make it, let alone be a star in the NBA. You have a better explanation for this?

I disagree. Exum plays hard on defense. I think he needs to play smarter defense not play harder. He is usually too aggressive and now post injury is struggling to get back in front of his guy to make up for getting beat on crossovers and other jukes that if he was not as aggressive would not bite as hard on.

So, you're blaming the injury. Well, you can't blame the injury for what happened in the video. That was pure lack of concentration. You can't blame the injury for his failure to take open shots in the paint. One thing is for certain whether or not it has to do with the injury he sure doesn't seem to have much confidence out there.

He can't. Read the rules. 3rd year players have to agree to go to the D-League. Just because he agreed to go to a practice doesnt he will agree to play in a game. It's clear him and/or his agent declined to play in the game Neto/Burks played in.

Clear as mud.

What is an “assignment” player?

A player put on assignment is a player on an NBA roster who is being sent to the D-League to get some playing time. The NBA club still holds their exclusive rights and only they can recall said player. Assignment players must have three (3) years of NBA experience or less and can be assigned an unlimited number of times.

*Players with 4 or more years of experience can also be assigned to the D-League however they must give their NBA team consent for the assignment.

He was more than fine on defense intensity wise before injury. Now he pathetically lacks quickness and gets burns even when leaves plenty of space. I reckon Dante is done as basketball player at this point as he has no NBA skills to compensate and I am saying this as his fan.

I have not blamed the injury for anything in that video. Maybe re read what I said. He got away with playing over aggressive his rookie year. He was able to recover a lot on getting juked. He cannot do that yet again. I think he needs to stop doing that even when he recovers.

I dont think his mistake was lack of concentration either but lack of concentration and aggressiveness are two different things.

He played with plenty of confidence on the defensive side his rookie year and earlier this season. He does seem to be questioning himself and his defensive positioning more lately but he also is getting very inconsistent minutes, roles and positions.

As far as not taking open shots in the paint I would like to see your evidence of that this year. That is something he struggled with his rookie year but has not this year. He drives quite a bit and attempts a shot most of the time.

Here you can look at all of them from this season:

You may be right, sad to say if this is what actually is going on. I don't know though because he seemed to playing good defense early in the season, had some really good blocks. He's seemed to have lost the intensity he had earlier. Maybe it's due to the tendonitis. Maybe this is the problem, that he's not going to be able to be the player he could've been, like Raul Lopez who had a bunch of injuries and only was the shell of what he could've been.

I am pretty sure they have made changes since this came out. I dont know what all of the changes are but they have made changes to the D-league that are not in here.

Well every writer/reporter was saying this during the practice assignment. IDK though, but that is the way I always understood the rule and what people have been saying on twitter.

If I spread wrong info I apologize.

So Exum can't remember who to guard. He would do very poorly at classic concentration.

I'm a big fan and advocate of Exum, but if he's sick of sitting on the bench doing nothing and he isn't going to play in the D League anytime soon then he needs to smarten up and do what Snyder is asking of him instead of making mindless mistakes like the video in OP and pissing off the guy who is in charge of determining how much you play in a game.

I'm sure Exum understands that the Jazz are in win now mode, so he needs to ensure that he does everything he can to be apart of the team and make the most out of the chances Snyder gives him. Either that, or he needs to go down to the D League so he can play through his mistakes there. Not sure what the exact rules are regarding D League assignments, but I hope it's not true that Exum/his agent are refusing to go to the D League.

The CBA FAQ is normally a reliable source of truth, so no-one can blame you for that. In fact, now I have my own doubts. I'm pretty sure that the change was made this season, though.

I thought the questions about the Exum/Neto/Burks assignment came from the assignment of Burks, who obviously had to agree to the assignment whichever version of the rule is correct.

Arguably GoBert cost us the Memphis game because he was more worried about sagging into the paint than guarding Gasoft. Gasoft hit a bunch of deep 2s and 3s while Rudy was in no mans land. Yet, he didn't get punished. I think that the dog house is the dumbest thing a coach can have where they favor some young over others. See Hayward vs CJ. The one that sees the dog house usually ends up struggling more as a Jazz player.

I'm honestly shocked that we are making such a big deal about this. It was a blowout game (up by 20) with a few minutes left in regulation. If it was literally any other player nobody would care.

20 plus points up with the game won and he benches Exum for not closing on an unproven three point shooter. Quin can't develop players to save himself, this was meant to be his calling card but I can't say he has really helped anyone at this stage. All of our draftees in his time are all inconsistent and are all struggling this season. Some worse than others.

He's a young player who needs to prove himself to get minutes. Not some fragile flower who needs to be handled with the utmost care lest he shatters. He made the same defensive mistake twice in a row, so he was yanked as punishment. Hopefully it'll be a learning experience.

20 pts up with 5 minutes to go. Why not let him play out the game and show him the footage after the game. Or use a timeout and spend the entire timeout talking to him. Quin over coaches and it effects the confidence of all of our younger players not just Dante.

Great coaching right there.

Make a huge point to Exum. You ****ed up kid. Those plays are what will keep you out of the lineup in the playoffs.
Hopefully they sink in, and Dante is making the right switch next time.
