Exum Finishes 4th In ESPN ROY Forecast

I think he'll end up more like 8th or 9th. Maybe lower.

To me his position will most be affected by his conditioning. If it stays horrible most of the year I agree that he will be out of the top 5. If he comes to play in NBA shape and gets some burn then I say perhaps top 5 but he won't win. I say his ceiling is 3rd if everything goes right for him.

If he finishes 4th we have something real special! I personally don't expect him to finish anywhere near the top 5...

I wonder if these guys going on about his Exum's conditioning are even watching Aussie exhibition games leading up to the Fiba World Cup.He's running just as hard with his Aussie team mates and the opposing guys he's guarding. They've played him right around 20 minutes a game.Need to move on and get up to speed, SL was over a month ago.

Variables that will determine this:

1. Conditioning.
2. Minutes.
3. Where does he get his minutes (on-ball vs off-ball).

If the world cup prepares him, then he rests up before camp and comes in ready for work, he'll be on the right path.

If he starts the season getting most of his minutes as the backup PG, with Trey moving off-ball when he's on the court, that will really help.

If he beats out Trey for the starting PG gig by February, then he'll definitely be in conversation for 3rd or 4th place.

I love the kid and pick, but honestly think we're going to need to be very patient these first 3-4 years.

I think people are taking the conditioning bit a little far. It was 4 (?) games in Summer League. He hadn't played in a year. He's got all offseason, all training camp, and all preseason.

There is also a huge difference between Australia and Utah that has a mean of 6,100 ft above sea level.

All the comments going on by people watching FIBA play is that he seems to get gassed very quickly. That is conditioning.

I see no reason he cannot have his conditioning ready to go by the time summer camp starts but will he? Seems like a fair question.

Honestly hven't watched. I've had some nasty PC viruses before and am scared of most of these international sites with a million pop ups and requiring me to sign up. Do you have a trusty site where I can watch?

Well if their watching Fiba like they say then you can see Exum guard some fast quick players and stay with them. You''d see him running as hard as his team mates and the opposing teams players.Since it's exhibition games almost all the players are only playing 1/2 the game ....so their all running and playing hard in their time on the floor.

I never questioned that he played hard. Just that he gets gassed quick. There is a difference. Especially witt good subbing. But I'm not worried about it. He is 19 and will get into NBA shape quick if he puts the work in. Comments about his character indicate he will.

The Jazz are going to be patient with Exum and he's no where ready for heavy minutes. He just turned 19 and we'll see if he can play more than three minutes before he grabs his shorts.

To me, this is one thing that comes to mind. But in general, there's a lot for him to overcome. That. Playing on the NBA level against grown men. His poor shooting. Playing time both overall and at the point. His free throw shooting. He's going to have a lot of growing pains imo. How he responds to those will help dictate how he performs imo. But I think 4th is being very optimistic.

I'm not as worried about his conditioning. He hadn't played 5 on 5 basketball in months. As much as you work out, you can't get into basketball shape without playing basketball. He will be limited more by inexperience in the beginning, and it will be how he adjusts to the NBA game that will more likely keep him out in the first few months. If he picks it up well enough to get more time, his conditioning will catch up fairly quickly.

Yes, I've watched all but one of his FIBA exhibition games and he does get gassed. It is not a coincidence that usually all his good passes, drives, scoring comes in the first half of pretty much all his games. If he gets more than 6 minutes in without rest he gasses, if he gets more than 15-16 mins in a game, he gasses. It's really easy to see.

And with that said, I am not worried about his conditioning. He's going to fix that relatively easy... lets see if the rest of the game would come along.

Has anyone else noticed that Exum has some weird body language sometimes? Is that what all this conditioning talk is coming from?
