Exum Injured

We ain't even sniffing the playoffs.

I disagree.
Last year if we start the season with Gobert as a starter we sniff (and maybe make) the playoffs with 19 year old dante and trey burke as our point guards...... They might have been the worst combo in the league.

It will probably bring the Vegas over/under down though

I think you guys might be exaggerating the importance of Dante. He has great future potential, but currently, his ****ty offense is cancelled out by his good defense, so his effect is in the end neutral. Listening to some of you, you'd think Dante had been carrying the team.
This.

Hell, there is a chance that this is better for the jazz in the short term

Y'all who are saying the season is going to be just fine without Exum are missing the ****ing point.

This season was going to be fun because we were going to have the chance to watch the development of a potential championship team. Without Exum, this team is not championship potential. So we can win more games than last season, and we probably will, but it means jack squat. I could care less about a middling team.

That's why save Favors becoming elite, this is going to be a long season.

Why?

Dante was a minus guy last season. We should still be in the hunt for the 8th seed. We needed Dante to improve for us to have a shot 50+ wins.
And this

It's not panicking. We've quite possibly lost Exum for this season and next season he probably won't even be 100%. That doesn't even figure in how behind he'll be next season on improving in his game, moves, body, psyche, etc. This pretty much put the kid behind two years IMO and even in 2017, we don't know if he'll have the same natural ability he did have let alone reach it.

Standing pat would be stupid IMO. We have our starting 2-5 with Hood, Hayward, Favors and Gobert. We have our instant offense 6th man in Burks. We have our future stretch 4 in Lyles. We have a couple other solid bench guys in Burke and Booker. But a poor starting pg kills this potential we do have.

We don't need to keep stockpiling future 1sts. Hell, I'm usually of the notion to keep snagging those assets. But now, right now, is the perfect time to use some of them (isn't this sort of why we've gotten them?) to make a move for a guy like Schröder.

You really care cunning and I think probably handsome. Unless we want trey as our PG next 2 years it is time to do the trade for someone!

Why? Because Dante played a large role in us being a great defensive team. That's our identity. Replace him with Burke and we're still pretty good at defense, but we definitely regress.

Maybe this is true.
Did we ever see trey as the starter with Rudy for an extended period of time?

I know Cotton isn't nearly as good defensively as Exum, but offensively I like him a hell of a lot more than Burke. He also had a pretty good Summer League and he is pretty quick and shoots it pretty well from 3pt.

If we strike out in trading for a Schröder type prospect, then I hope he get some major minutes with our starters.

Pretty good summer league?! He shot 36% against scrubs.

Well there goes the excitement of this upcoming season. Unless Derrick Favors becomes Karl Malone this year, it'll probably be a long one.
BS

Most of this post is good.

This season still going to be really fun.
Are you saying that next April if the jazz are in the playoff hunt that you will be depressed/bored about it?

Seems stupid to me

I do not agree. Dante was a neutral on offense and positive on defense, overall positive. Let's not pretend he was doing damage to the team offensively. He understood his limitations and played within them. Losing Dante wouldn't be a huge deal if we had a good offensive pg to replace him with. Replacing him with Burke could definitely be ugly.

Dante sucked on offense.
He did nothing. Doing nothing = hurting the offense.

Tony allen hurts memphis offense.

The difference between him and Trey is the ball moved when Dante was on the court. He didn't create much but he sure as heck didn't suffocate the team offensively like Burke does.

How can someone whom opposing defense doesn't close out on, worry about him driving, and pretty much completely ignore, be a neutral on offense? How can anyone possibly be a negative in your view?

defense is our identity and dante played huge part of that role. his length bothered lots of pgs. I hope opposing pgs don't burn us next year...

this is horrible news. Based on the vines, you'd have to think something else was at play. Someone's job should be in question. Was anyone from our medical travelling with the Boomers?

Trey and Bryce aren't going to cut it defensively. If Dante is out the season, Neto could be our starter come January, if he learns to shoot a little bit.

This.

Neto is a pretty good defender, though. He doesn't have the length, but he's got the speed and nasty.
