Exum Injured

The worst thing about knee injuries is that it doesn't just affect the injured knee, it affects both cuz you start to compensate for the bad knee with the good knee.....he's ****ed

Okay, that's enough negativity for today. Here are some puppies for you.

If he tore his ACL he'll never amount to anything.
It's a devastating injury for Dante but he's young enough to recover and have a long and successful career. NBA players can and do bounce back to be stronger and better than they were prior to ACL surgery. In addition to the already mentioned Jamal Crawford, Baron Davis and Kyle Lowry both tore their ACL's at a similar age to Dante (they were both still in college) and both went on to become better players and have successful NBA careers.

What's the secret to smoking a whole dog? They are all over the place where I live. Usually I keep the head and give the meat away. It would be nice to make use of it.

It's mostly about the marinade and ensuring the coals are hot enough.

Im still pissed about it. Tell me why I should be excited about next season? How much sweat off Australias back is it having Exum out? Just feels like the risk has always outweighed the benefits.

While this definitely sucks. I don't really think it effects the Jazz much long term or short term. They were not a championship contender yet. They are still probably good enough to make a run at getting into the playoffs even if they are and were unlikely to make it.
.
If Exum is out long term, It means Trey gets his shot to show if he's a starting PG or not. Neto and Cotton get to show if they can be backups or not. Exum's development on the court is going to be put on hold for a while, but I don't believe it will be stunted completely no matter what this injury is.
.
To the doomsayers saying he'll never be the same guy that seems really unlikely for a guy his age with the current medical available. Guys recover from ACL tears all the time. And that is pretty much worst case scenario here.
.
FWIW I've read about 5 total posts in this thread. So this is just my initial reaction based on the video, news reports and those few posts.

I think Exum does run awkwardly (he overstrides IMO) and wonder if that could be a contributor in how his body/muscles/etc have (mis?)developed and possibly led to this injury.

More irresponsible speculation possibly on my part but as a big time sports guy, I just this to possibly be true--his stride is too long and gangly.

Exum will be back, an ACL is definitely not a death sentence. But will he ever reach his potential, and would he have anyways even without any injuries? I loved Exum's play last year and hoped/predicted he would become better as he got older. I still feel the same way.

But, will Burke change his chucking ways is now the more pressing question.

Gobert, Favors, G-time, Burks Hood, Snyder, the development of Lyles.

Let's face it, Exum wasn't going to do much this season anyway other than not make mistakes on offense and play good defense. Neto may very well be able to fill that role as well.

Yeah, but he was going to get better this year in some way and lets us know what we really have.

This

Exum's injury sux but he isn't our number 1, 2, or even 3 guy. It doesn't blow our season.

This is not about this season. It's about his development and trajectory as a player for the next 2-3-4 years and about Jazz' ability to evaluate his progress. Now he misses 12 months and is in his third year playing post ACL surgery(there is some evidence that players level falls immediately after ACL surgery while they get used to and learn to trust the new reconstructed joints). So in year 3 we still wouldn't know what we have either way, especially if he doesn't play well... And then the last year of his rookie contract comes.

It's such a waste and such a setback. I absolutely hate this. It makes me wanna throw up. I don't care about next season. We weren't going to be contenders either way, with or without him, it doesn't matter much for next season's performance. But it would have mattered hell of a lot for his development and now he probably won't be back to full strength until year 4 of his contract and that screws us over much more than him barely missing 1 season of play.
