Exum Putting In Some Work

I think it actually might be the only way.

The Jazz lack a penetrator who can threaten the rim and get to the line.

They also need someone that can dwarf Curry and stay ahead of him. Also, he is the perfect switch defender. He could develop in a way that means he could switch onto KD and be a significant impediment.

How many players do you know that have that possible ceiling?

Hoping that Exum can somewhat bother Curry is ridiculuos - are you even watching any playoffs this year? Plus he sucks as switch defender as he gets lost in rotations and switches constantly and gets yanked out of the game by Snyder mostly for that reason. Exum on KD? ROFL.. KD is abusing LeBron and you think Exum may be an an answer - my oh my....
Dude is very raw and lacks basics basketball skills and instincts and you keep thinking that he can be some kind of saviour. Jazz are lucky if he turns in to Shan Livingston type backup PG at best. But nobody sees Livingston type players as a key to beating some elite teams. And Livingston at least has mid range jumper.

There is nothing elite about Exum's athleticism, length or mindset. He has elite first step, that's it.

Buddy you need to read carefully.

I didn't write Exum has elite:
speed; length; athleticism; defense and a team first mindset.

I stated that Exum had elite speed, length, athleticism, defense and a team first mindset.

Comprende?

Do you read with the intent to distort? I didn't suggest he could shut down KD. You seem to think Exum can't improve his conditioning and strength. Getting lost on rotations is something that happens. It's not a glaring problem with him.

Nice argument about X not being able to defend Curry. Sophisticated, pointed and persuasive.

Are you David Locke's lovechild by any chance?

I think agenda was the perfect way to use, because it is the exact way that the GM described another player. That, on top of his low skill level, is what is limiting him on the offensive end. He needs to improve upon his decision making ability and his skill level if he wants to see the floor. At some point he needs to be responsible for his development. Opportunity will come if he gets better.

Don't forget about the defensive end either. The shooting and ball handling may never get there, but his defense has to be good if he's going to make it in this league. His footwork and activity in the passing lanes need to improve as well.
I think it's clear that you did not understand what Quin was saying when he used the agenda phrase to describe Ingles.

You are delusional.

Nah, it is gonna be another incompetitive playoffs GSW domination year

So? One does not determine the other. One outlier does not remove all other competition or improvement. Take this season for example. I had a blast watching it and enjoyed it immensely.

Agreed. GSW and super teams present a challenge and I'm hoping not an overreaction from Hayward. He may think forming a super team is the only way to win... I don't think Boston is any closer to beating GS than we are... By time all of their picks are realized and major contributors Hayward may be out of his prime.

Everyone else should build the best they can and give luck a chance.

It's clear to me that you don't understand that Quin is not the GM of the Utah Jazz and did not listen to the same interview that the actual GM of the Jazz did.

29 minutes in:

"When Joe moves on the court he doesn't really play with an agenda. He doesn't say before the game I've got to score 15 points or I've got to do this. He just makes the right play, and because of that Rudy recognizes that, Gordon recognizes that, Quin recognizes that."

Sorry for mistaking where the quote came from, but now that I've read it I'm more convinced than before that DL would not describe X as playing with an agenda. He's using agenda as a synonym for "ulterior motive." He's saying that Jingles tries to make the best play for the team, not for his personal stats. X's problem does not appear to be that he has an agenda, it's that he has tunnel vision. He makes a decision about what he's going to do on a given play and he's unable to improvise when an obstacle or opportunity arises.

I see it as one in the same as tunnel vision. I used that phrase in one of my posts. His agenda may not be numbers, but he does commit to other things regardless of whether or not it is the right play. You can tell when he wants nothing to do with the ball and wants to hide in the corner. You can also tell when he wants to make a play and dribbles the entire shot clock away. He decides what he wants to do be fore he does it, and that is what gets him in trouble.

Semantics aside, we're talking about the same thing. It's the reason why he does absolutely nothing some games and tries to do way too much other times. The game doesn't come to him naturally and he can't make decisions on the fly.

That can only come with time, but he's going to need to improve his game if he wants to stay on the floor. It's very hard to give minutes to a PG who can't dribble and can't punish a defense for completely ignoring it. It's not a hard standard to uphold. He needs to take responsibility for his own development and get better. The minutes will be there if he does improve.

Personally, I love the approach that FO is taking. They are challenging Dante to get better instead of entitling him to minutes.

I don't think Exum has tunnel vision at all. I think he starts making the play and then he has a limited amount of things he can do once he gets in the lane. He doesn't really have a natural pullup game, and his finishing is not incredibly varied. So his choice is often to go for a contested layup, or make a pretty tough pass. I don't understand the tunnel vision thing at all, and I actually think Dante has a really nice feel for the game with pocket passes, and skip passes in the PnR. It's just the finishing and mid range scoring game that limits him right now. Of course another limiting factor is that he rarely actually gets to have the ball in those situations, and sometimes presses to make something happen and stay on the court.

That's a good point. The lack of creativity could be chalked up to a lack of moves in the first place. I still think he tunnels in on decisions quite often, however. When I watch him I don't see a player who's makes quick decisions on the fly. He makes some great passes through/over the defense, but I wouldn't say he runs an offense well.

Skill development is definitely the biggest hurdle right now. His handle especially limits him. Right now he's like a sports car with bald tires.

I know its not the popular thought but if George Hill doesnt sign I'd like Exum to start. Draft another PG possibly, and keep Neto as 3rd string.

In other words I wont be devastated if Hill doesnt resign. I like Hill, but I worry about his durability, cost, and blocking Exum's development.

Although, Exum wasnt without flaws in the 2nd half I liked his game, and noticed his improvements.
I agree with this but my only worry is that Hayward will walk away because we don't have a proven PG.

I think the Hayward decision will be made before the Hill decision. Last time Hayward was a restricted free agent, he was the first one signed. He might wait to test the landscape, but we would have made all the promises and talk before he signs.

And think about it, how pissed would we be if we sign Hill and Hayward walks. I would be irate. Hill is an awful signing without Hayward. Awful.

Good to see Exum hard at work. Dude is such a freak with his length (assuming PG). Can't wait to see him once he has a full summer of actual non-rehab work on his game. It seems like he at least wants other people to know that he is working hard. I wish he was doing all those beach drills while dribbling with his left hand haha.
