Family Feud

Behind my gun.

And nice timing on the question as my wife woke me up to a home intruder at 3:30 a.m. two nights ago. At first I wrote it off as possibly her waking up hearing things, but it turns out she had been awake for a couple of hours. We have a few distinct floor board creaks and the feet shuffling is distinct as well. The TV had been unplugged and the garage door was unlocked.

I've always said an indoor dog is the best home defense but apparently a baby waking up crying scares them off just as well.

So I locked them in the room and went out guns blazing, with backup plans inside the room should she hear anything go down.

And??? They took off?

And??? They took off?

Luckily, yes.

She went to grab some tums which woke the baby right as she turned the door handle and heard it all. It could have gotten ugly if the baby didn't wake and start crying and she walked into the middle of it. She thought it was me and went back to the baby until she saw me sleeping on the floor. Whatever it was was gone by the time I had woken up enough to inspect. I spent a minute at the bottom of the door listening and looking for shadows.

I literally sleep with my gun safe by my bed, with my glasses on top of it. There have been a few people mentioning they've had people in their house at night in my neighborhood. My wife had been instructed to follow me out, gather the kids, and hide with 911 dialed ready to call in such a scenario. I want to get her a handgun as well, so she can defend herself and the kids as a last resort.

Jason, could you please add an "I'm confused" button?

Next to my bed is a large safe with MANY guns and insane ammo.

But I doubt anyone ever even steps onto my driveway with an Excursion with an 8" lift...

Breaking into my home is like a ****ing sport to me.

Where did you get the Molon Labe sticker? I believe that originated on the old "The High Road" web site, but that's not something I know for sure.

I just took a quick peek at "theHighRoad.org" website. While it is still a firearm enthusiast website, I do not believe it is the same website I used to participate in. I read some time ago that there was basically a takeover of the website and it was a mess and a sister site was created for a while and the membership was completely confused and lost. I basically walked away at that time. I had been an active poster.

To go a little deeper, "The HIgh Road" was created after the owner of "The Firing Line" was killed. That person was a firearm enthusiast who lived in a state that did not allow concealed carry, so he carried what was allowed, which was basically a pocket knife. After he died the most prominent members of that site created a new site, called "The High Road" which was also a firearm enthusiast site, but was better than anything I've seen in regard to advocating for responsible firearm ownership, handling and usage. I think in the mid 2000s it was the largest and most active firearm website around. Then the new IT guy basically got ahold of all the passwords and had all the servers in his physical possession and claimed ownership of the site. **** show happened and now what was "thehighroad.com" is "highroad.org" and it's not the same.

Anyway, if you purchased premium membership from "thehighroad, com" you got a "Molon Labe" sticker.

That's why I ask.

And for further and completely unnecessary clarification, it is in honor of the original "thehighroad.com" website that I changed my location several months ago.

So a shootout? What if stray bullets hit your family?

I carry hollow points. Besides, truthfully, most "robbers" take off at the first sign of someone being home and awake, just like franklin's story.

Yeah, Im sure you are right. I do think a gun is a benefit most of the time in those situations, but I just hope people dont overestimate their abilities and put themselve into more harm.

I'm under no pretense that I'll act like Jason Bourne when/if this happens.
The only thing I can say is that I'd rather have the opportunity and tools to protect myself and my family than not.

Did you leave the garage door unlocked or had they unlocked it? And they had unplugged the tv because they were going to steal it? Just looking for clarfication.

I have a home security system with the sign out front. You should consider getting one. I think I read that the FBI said homes with them are 30% less likely to be robbed than those without.

What percentage of the time would you guys guess home intruders are armed with some sort of weapon?

10% of the time?

Also, here we go with some knucklehead argument over the definition of weapon.. fists, feet, a screwdriver, breath..
