Taking four weeks off to be with my child.

Anyone else ever take this or is it only an NJ thing?

I hope you have awesome activities prepared, because if you're doing worse than his playdates, guess what the demand is going to be!

If it's paid leave, then it's pretty rare. Anyone can have their job held for them and insurance continued while taking up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the FMLA.

That is not exactly true. To be a covered employee under the FMLA, your employer needa to have 50+ employees. Some states have their own version that can be more generous, including partial pay from the state while on leave (CA is an example)

This. FMLA provides for this benefit.

That is awesome, and very rare. Consider yourself lucky. And enjoy that time. It may sound hokey but I recommend a journal of some sort to help cement the memories, whether it be written or video or pictorial or whatever.
