Team nightmare3983
PG- Bob Cousy / Rajon Rondo
SG- Michael Cooper / World B. Free
SF- Paul Pierce / Rick Barry
PF- Elvin Hayes / Bill Laimbeer
C- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar / Mark Eaton
Team Orangello
PG- Chris Paul / Russell Westbrook
SG- Michael Jordan / Manu Ginobili
SF- Glen Rice / Chris Mullin
PF- Charles Barkley / Serge Ibaka
C- Marcus Camby / Arvydas Sabonis
nightmare3983's case:
PG – The starting PG matchup is a good one, with both Rondo and Paul being good defenders and great distributors. Paul has the advantage in scoring, but not by much. The backups are fairly evenly matched as well. Westbrook has a little bit of a size advantage over Cousy, but Cousy is a better passer.
SG – Yep, orangello has MJ. To counter that, Michael Cooper, who made 8 All-Defensive teams and earned DPOY will guard him. Nobody’s going to shut MJ down, but Cooper will make him work to get his points. When Ginobili comes in to spell Jordan, World B. Free will come in. Both are great scorers, but Free has the advantage. Manu is the better flopper.
SF – Both Glen Rice and Paul Pierce can score and are excellent three-point shooters. Pierce is better at rebounding, passing and getting to the FT line. Mullin is well-established as a great three-point shooter. Rick Barry played the majority of his career without the three-point shot, but had a solid 33% for the seasons when it was around. Barry has a slight edge in scoring and rebounding with both getting a solid number of assists and shooting well.
PF – Hayes vs Barkley is a spectacular matchup. Both players put up very similar per-game numbers over their careers. They just missed playing against each other as Barkley’s rookie season was right after Hayes’ last. The only real advantage either has is Hayes with shot-blocking and Barkley with steals. The Laimbeer-Ibaka matchup would be interesting. Ibaka’s a super-athletic shot blocker while Laimbeer is more of a hard-nosed player. Laimbeer is a three-point threat which could pull Ibaka away from the paint depending on who is on the court. Laimbeer could very well get under Ibaka’s skin with some cheap shots and flopping to draw offensive fouls. Laimbeer flopped long before it was commonplace.
C – Kareem has the edge on Camby. Camby is a great shot-blocker and rebounder, but not a big threat on offense with his wind-up jumper. Kareem will have a similar impact with defense and rebounding, but wins the matchup with Camby because of his offense. A few players have blocked the skyhook from time to time, but Kareem will score with it over and over until the defense sends double teams which opens up opportunities for everyone else. The backup center matchup is fun because Sabonis was a great offensive player and long-range threat while Eaton was a solid rebounder and phenomenal shot-blocker.
This is too long already, but my team wins mainly because of the frontcourt. Both of my SFs are better, Laimbeer and Hayes can hold their own with Barkley and Ibaka, and the advantage of Kareem over Camby is far greater than any advantage of Sabonis has on Eaton. My backcourt is at a disadvantage, but they’ll get the job done and hold their own.
I’ll close the game with Cousy, Pierce, Barry, Hayes, and Kareem.
Orangello's case:
UGLI baby here doing a guest expert analization of Orangeyellows team.
I will go one by one down the roster starting in reverse alphabetical order of the players LAST name and list some key attributes/facts/figures//// for each member of the squad lets get started!
Westbrook, Russell: Averaged 20.4 FGA per game in the 2012 NBA playoffs. Thats 1.2 more attempts than teammate Kevin Durant was able to hoist during that same time frame.
Sabonis, Arvydas: A coach once said of Sabonis, " Once Arvydis is in the game, his feet never leave the floor." This is not because Sabonis was never subtituted for, but because he was born without the ability to jump.
Rice, Glen Not familiar with this player.
Paul, Chris Reports are that Paul has been off the pee this entire offseason. Barring a re-lapse he could be in for the best season of his career.
Mullin, Chris One of the most well rounded whiteys to escape the grasp of team UGLI baby.
Ibaka, Serge Took 4th place in the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Manu Ginobili Almost won the starting role over Danny Green for the 2012 San Antonio Spurs. Experts say next year is the year he finally gets off the bench.
Marcus Camby Really tall and skinny. Has banked more money than any other NBA player, when you take into account his college career under Calipari.
Barkley, Charles Some youngsters might know him as the "weight watchers" guy, others might know him as "the funny guy on TNT" maybe you think he's just that guy who got a DUI and has gambling problems, but NBA die hards will always remember him as the guy wh
That's my unbiased assessment. Hope I didn't leave any players out.
