Team Orangello

PG- Chris Paul / Russell Westbrook
SG- Michael Jordan / Manu Ginobili
SF- Glen Rice / Chris Mullin
PF- Charles Barkley / Serge Ibaka
C- Marcus Camby / Arvydas Sabonis

Team SiroMar

PG- Isiah Thomas / Deron Williams
SG- Joe Dumars / Earl Monroe
SF- Grant Hill / Alex English
PF- Kevin McHale / Shawn Kemp
C- Bill Russell / Marc Gasol

Orangello's case:

Will be closing with:

Ginobili
Jordan
Mullins
Ibaka
Camby

SiroMar's case:

My team is the complete package. I have a world-class defender at every position, including Bill Russell, who is generally considered the best ever. Well, not if you ask Michael Jordan. He think Joe Dumars was the best ever. No problem, I got him too. None of my players is a one dimensional defender. They can all score at will, and drop 40 points each. McHale post skills are only surpassed by those of Hakeem. And Isiah Thomas needs no introduction. Whenever an extra offensive spark is needed, I can call upon my bench. Whether it is 80s scoring champion Alex English, or 90s power house Shawn Kemp, I have plenty of option on all fronts. While my team does not shine on outside shooting, I do have good shooters. Joe Dumars averaged 43% from the 3pt in his prime. Grant Hill is a decent long range shooter, and so are Deron Williams and Isiah Thomas. But the most important thing about my team is that it's full of tenacious winners. The starting line up alone share 18 rings between it's members. My team would make short work out of Orangello's team.

Cannot believe that Siro snagged both Zeke and Joe D in this draft. Probably the best backcourt duo in NBA history. Its too bad he drafted Marc instead of Unseld.

Any opinions on how the bolded guys would match up against the modern opponents?

Siromar got my vote. I liked his team more. Backcourt, frontcourt... orangello has slight advantage on SG and PF, (maybe not even in PF) but Siromar is better in every other position.

Siromar because Orangello is closing with Ibaka instead of Barkley.

I've got enough scoring between Jordan, Ginobili and Mullins. I wanted a very strong inside defensive presence to finish out games. Also, Jordan was defensive player of the year in 1988 as well as a ten time all defensive first team player and one time second team all defensive player. I have a great mix of offense and defense on the floor to end games.

I love this quote by Siromar:

Here is a little interesting tidbit, Jordan never lost when he got to the finals? How many other players can say that? Jordan was the greatest player of all time and the greatest winner or all time.

honest question (because I can't recall): did Duncan ever lose a finals?

English scored the most points in the 80's, more than Bird or Magic. He would be fine in the modern era.

I haven't seen much of English, King, Dantley, or guys like that, but from what I have seen and read, I get the impression they were like guys like Kevin Martin, and Eric Gordon. Guys who could school score a lot for their team but weren't top guys in the league.

Do think I'm somewhat right about that?

It is unfortunate (for me) that Orangello got the 1st pick while I got the 10th. That landed him the unavoidable Jordan advantage. My team is superior in every other way, but it might not matter that much to those who will vote for whoever got Jordan.

For the record, I like your team. I was hoping to get a match up with Catchall and just destroy him in votes. I'm sorry that we had to meet so early.

Tell me about it. ECTYA would have been a very easy match too. PKM would not have been bad either.
