Favor's Comments

Just to clarify here, I really don't care if he starts, but if he isn't playing 30+ minutes a game Corbin has to go.

If he is not starting at the beginning of the season then Corbin should be fired right then. Favors was not given a shot last year. He started 2 games because Millsap was coming off of an injury. He should have been starting over Paul all of last season. He needed to grow into that role and instead they decided to give the minutes to 2 players that did nothing to deserve them over him. I don't care how much people here like Paul. He is not as good as Favors and was not last season. Neither is Jefferson. One of them need to be shown the door or benched to make room for the better player. If Corbin does not have the balls to do it then he is not the answer as our coach.

I disagree a bit. Yes, by the playoffs Favors was playing the best of our bigs, but not so early in the season. He made a lot of progress during the season.

Probably the biggest overreach in JF history, With that said, it'll be ok, when Favors leaves we'll still have Big Al and Sap.

By what metric do you attribute this?

I've glanced at most. Only metric I haven't looked at is the reliable pulledoutofass metric.

Favors will start this season. I think there is very little question about that. KOC and Ty spoke with him in his exit interview about being a starter and a face-of-the-franchise kind of guy, which Derrick said he was ready to do.

If it means moving Paul to the bench and pissing him off, I think they'll do it. But I'd be stunned if Favors wasn't starting and getting 32-36 minutes a night.

I believe the Jazz need to show Favors that he is our 'franchise' guy, and they need to do that by benching Millsap or Jefferson. I don't care which one.

BTW, a lot of the talk on the board is that we have an amazing core of four young guys, but statistically not all four guys are going to work out. If one of our four has superstar potential, I believe it is Favors.

By watching the impact he had on games at the end of the season when he was finally getting minutes. And believing if he had been getting more minutes in games he would have been able to show that much earlier.

Agreed. Starting a player can have a good effect on a player's psyche, and benching a player like Paul or Al to give him that position makes a statement.

I don't know if I should expect anything different from Corbin this year. Pop absolutely schooled him in coaching during the playoffs, but I'm not sure he payed any attention to it.

checkmate.

Greg, your hate of Millsap has been well beyond reasonable for months now. I think improving every ****ing year for six years and clearly being the best player on the team is full-on deserving of a starting role.

But, but, but...he's short.

Slow down. Favors totally blew in the first two games he started (next to Jefferson), while Millsap came in and literally looked like the only person on the team that looked like he belonged in the NBA and on a winning team (in layman terms, kicked *** and didn't bother to take names).

It may be worth noting, too, that when he started alongside Millsap, he went 20 and 11 in a win. And yet, Al ****ty-butt-**** Jefferson got the nod ahead of Favors.

Advanced metrics support this.

Paul had career bests in each of the following last season.

Win shares (7.8)
Win shares per 48 mins (.179)
Usage (23.2%)
Turnover % (10.3%)
Steal % (2.9)
Defensive rebound % (21.2%)
PER (21.8)

The dude definitely deserves a starting role. It becomes clearer everyday why al Jeff should be the one who must lose his spot, either through benching or trade.

Pop quiz time!

In which year did Favors get more minutes?

A) His nightmare rookie season ('10-'11)
B) His sophomore season ('11-'12)

If you guessed B, you'd be ****ing wrong.

He played in 13 more regular season games in 10-11;
He avg'd (barely) more mins per game in 11-12

Millsap isn't big enough. David Lee puts up good numbers, and his #'s are better each year, but I'm sure if they had someone better on that roster, they'd play him. Do you REALLY think Millsap is the better choice to lead this team to a championship? Or do you just want to settle for first round exits
