Favors got extended

Hopefully we get a star potential player in the draft which will be on a rookie deal, then we will have our guys and core for about 4 more years.
 
With incentives it's harder to put the structure up, but 25% max he can get next season is estimated at $14.5mm. I think max incentives can be 10% and max reductions 7.5% so let's hope front loading this was something around $13.63, $12.60, $11.66, and $10.79.

That's one hell of a sweet extension structure and there is zero reason for the Jazz to have not front loaded.

I think this will help Favors too. He can just go out now and play his game. Who knows if this was on his mind.

That's not what I'M talking about. Shots challenged by Sanders close to the basket have the lowest ratio to result in points ;) Favors is not in the same category yet.
I feel the Jazz got kinda raped by the early extension. Early extension means financial security for the player. The Jazz didn't get a discount here. 3rd year extensions are either financial trade offs or it's a franchise player who you want to stay happy at any cost.
But since Favors views himself as PF I compare him to Taj Gibson. Taj is also a better defender at this point. Derrick is younger with more upside. Offensively they are similar in efficiency IMO at this point. Taj got 4 yrs $33M. If I factor in expected development for Favors I'd say an early extension at $42M would have been a fair price. Now he has the benjamins incoming and can pull a Tyrus Thomas or get hurt. That's why I think that's a horrible contract. Didn't the Jazz hire a former agent to be assistant GM?

If he's doing 15 and 10 and battles for an all defense 2nd team spot you're right. That would be kind of a huge improvement from last season. I don't like bold predictions. They're called bold for a reason. But it doesn't matter too much, since it expires when the 2014 first rounders come off their rookie contract. By then we'll know his real value.
 
Props to the Jazz for getting that done. Wow.

At the very least Favors is a great defender and good rebounder, and a pretty good offensive player with a lot of upside.

I'm surprised Favors camp decided to bite.
