Favs Deal Must Be Moved

Every team in the league has role players in their starting lineup lol. Just look at the two teams playing in the finals right now...Crowder and Bridges start for the Suns and the Bucks start PJ Tucker and Brooke Lopez. The Jazz finals teams had Russell and Ostertag in the starting lineup, hell even Hornacek would be considered a role player. Jordan's Bulls started players like Ron Harper and Luke Longlely, Bruce Bowen was huge in the starting lineup on Spurs championship teams, Derek Fish started on Lakers championship teams. Even super teams with 3 superstars fill out the rest of the starting 5 with role players. Look at some of the players Lebron won titles with... guys like Shane Batier, Mike Miller, Cladwell-Pope, J.R. Smith, Tristan Thompson, etc.

I could go on and on listing different players but the point is every single team throughout the history of the NBA has had role players and complimentary pieces in their starting lineup, even the championship teams.
Don't insult Russell by mentioning him with ostertag.

No need to through insults my way, I just took a shot at your beloved player, he sucks and proved that in the playoffs. No need to use the name calling card.
Dude, you have been the one doing the insulting all last season. I like Niang but not that much.

Nah Tucker was traded at the deadline,
He started for Houston before the trade. This is one of the dumber arguments I've seen someone throw out there. He's a role player... he starts because he is one of their 5 best guys available.

He is washed man ...
And yet he's still a role playing starter on a finals team but I'm sure its just matchup based... and every matchup in the playoffs has been a good matchup for him.

He is a tough defender, hard nosed indeed but the offense has dropped off.
literal definition of a role player... there are a couple that start on nearly every championship team.

I wanna know which teams haven’t because I’m pretty sure every championship team has role players.

This discussion is one of the most clown boner things I have seen in a while.
And to the direct point, this team would be A LOT worse if it replaced Joe and Royce with another Bojan and JC. The Jazz didn’t get bounced because they couldn’t score and only a person with a 10-year old’s level of analysis would think otherwise.

We should have fired DL after his first year then. They screwed up on Millsap so so badly

The really infuriating thing is that we knew damn well what we had. It's not as if this was a case of a player suddenly exploding after going to a new team. Millsap was talked about as a possible All-Star his last year here. Even if you buy into the logic that the timeline wasn't right, he was worth something.

I mean, how many cases can you think of where an organization develops a 4-time All-Star and then just lets him walk?

Millsap had a pretty disappointing season his last year in Utah. Retaining him might not have been an option.

With that said, ownership/management threw away an opportunity to acquire assets in 2012-13, chasing a playoff spot (presumably). Total waste of a season.

Right, this isn't about retaining Millsap. It was clear by the summer of 2012 that Millsap and Jefferson were not considered the frontcourt of the future by the front office. We were not going to keep them. Why not trade them before they expire? Why trade Devin Harris for Marvin Williams? That's not even a lateral move.

Disappointing because we tried to make him play SF and conform to Favors and others. I was screaming to the top of my lungs those days to play Favors at C and Millsap at PF.

It was just so obvious. Then later on, I said we should trade Favors because he was never really a PF. His value was so high for a while there.

Sometimes, our decisions or indecision just drive me crazy.

Except that never happened.
Oh it definitely did. Paul's last offseason here was spent training at SF so he could get minutes. His training eventually made him better for Atlanta and Denver because his shot improved so much. We were so stupid to let him go all because Favors was determined to be a PF when he was clearly a C.

No point in continuing this, but he played very few minutes at the 3 his last season in Utah. Take a look at the play-by-play stats on basketball reference for all the Jazz bigs that year.

The point is that he was told by our front office to build a skill set to play SF so he could see the court more. Then we let him go the next summer.

It was a gross mismanagement of an asset. That's the discussion we are having.

For crying out loud, the guy went on to 4 straight All Star appearances and was arguably Atlanta's best player during that stretch when they were relevant.

Favors is another mismanagement of an asset. Once we saw what Gobert was, Favors should have been traded for improvement elsewhere.

I mean, just imagine if we had kept Millsap, traded Favors, traded Hayward before he just left, and still drafted Don. DL drafted Rudy and Don but he pissed away Millsap and Favors' value.
