Favs Deal Must Be Moved

Here is another deal inspired by @Saint Cy of JFC 's suggestion of Chicago.

Favs & #30 for Aminu & #38 - This will low key save Ryan some money because of the difference in salary between a first and a second round pick. We can also sell this as believing in Udoka as the backup 5. We can also sell this when we don't use the taxpayer MLE because we brought Aminu in to fill the need we have for perimeter defense... we can't sign someone to the taxpayer MLE and block this guy... right? They can then add a vet minimum guy or two and the media can state how smart they are but we will all know they did a minimal changeup but saved some cash.
Seems possible

I'm not so sure. Aminu is expiring and Favs has two more years left on his deal. They may not even be interested if the plan is to bring Theis back.

You might be right. The problem with this move imo is I think it prohibits us from going after Batum or Gay.

If we are tripping Conley, the only way I think we can get Batum or Gay is if we offload Favors in a deal that nets us savings of at least 4M.

Oh that’s the problem for you… but that’s the benefit for Jazz management watching Ryan’s wallet. Can’t justify spending 24M on Gay if you already have Aminu. It’s a compromise… I dont think Ryan has the appetite for the tax bill if we retain Mike and use the taxpayer MLE… moving Favs for no salary and burning our draft assets to do it will be viewed too negatively.

But we very well might be able to move him without burning them. 30 and Favors for 35 or 36 might very well be possible.

Buy a 2nd as well (I really want this) and we can walk away with dumping Favors, drafting two higher 2nd rounders in a very deep draft, signing Batum or Gay and reupping Conley.

I think that is fairly optimistic. I think if you are going to get off of Favs salary you need to move him to a team that sees him as more than just a contract. I think your best hope is send him to Charlotte with 30 for 56/57... I've added McDaniels in some scenarios but they may not do that.

If someone OKC loves is there you might get 36 and 55 for #30 and Favs. The other way to do something is to split it into two deals... So you move #30 for say 37/42 with Detroit and then you flip Favs with one of those picks to Charlotte for space. Or NO falls in love with someone and gives 35/40/53 for 30 and then you spin off a pick and have a couple second rounders. I think Oni might have some really minimal trade value and that might be another guy we could add in to help grease the wheels.

You may have to wait and see what they can do in FA before they will commit their cap space. So you could swap #30 for a second this year and like two other second round picks in the future. Charlotte, OKC, NY or any cap space team would likely want to see what they can do before settling on Favs. Its kind of a tough deal unless Ryan has just said "**** it... I'll spend whatever we need to". Possible, but not likely.

If we don't move Favs I am totally prepared for the speech about how we couldn't get anyone good enough to use the taxpayer MLE and so we brought in vet minimum guys instead. There are still guys I like in that range that could help us so I guess whatevs... but it'd be nice to get a higher end rotation guy.

We will also get the same speech at draft time... "the player they wanted was available at #47 so it was smart to move down... not a money saving deal at all.... just being smart".

Good. At least they ain't using their first round pick to take the guy who's gonna be available at #47, which would still be an improvement over last year
