He claimed to be a socialist but he was a dictator. True Socialism is a democratic form of government not an authoritarian form of government like Nazi Germany, the former Soviet Union, or Mao's Communist China. Socialism operates on the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. Authoritarian governments benefit only the elite few who rule the rest. You're such a dodo, Dutch. You need to become extinct.

Socialism was the hot **** at that period in history. Anyone wanting to improve their brand was talking about socialism in one way or another. I mean at the same time in the U.S. we had the New Deal (largely socialist ideas) and that's when we got stuff like "Social Security."
