(CNN) -- Gay basketball star John Amaechi has criticized the head of soccer's ruling body for his comments about homosexuals planning to attend the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter was unable to keep a straight face when asked at a press conference in South Africa what to advise gay people who hope to go to the Arab emirate.
The mainly Muslim country, which will host the tournament for the first time, forbids same-sex relationships by law.
"I would say that they should refrain from sexual activities," Blatter answered on Monday, after a long pause.
"We are living in a world of freedom and when the World Cup will be in Qatar, this will be in 2022. And you can see in the Middle East the opening of this culture. It is another culture because it is another religion, but in football we have no boundaries."

However, Amaechi -- who became the first NBA basketballer to reveal he is gay after retiring in 2007 -- accused the 74-year-old Blatter of showing "archaic, Neanderthal ignorance" towards the world's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Sorry. Couldn't get past that part without laughing.

Duh.

they weren't calling him a Basketball star. They said:

Gay basketball star John Amaechi

This infers that his sexuality is helps define his stardom. So let's follow this up with a question, how many homosexual basketball players in the NBA do you know of? Without a sufficient sample size to prove the contrary, one could realistically call him a star, even though he sucked.

Serious question, it said:

The mainly Muslim country, which will host the tournament for the first time, forbids same-sex relationships by law.

Aren't hetero sex relationships forbidden by law (without marriage) in most Muslim countries too?

so why don't we just encourage everyone to just control themselves for a little while since we westerners are all liberal promiscuous infidels anyway? Somehow, I doubt homosexuality is looked down THAT much worse than heterosexual promiscuity in Qatar.

Here's something funny...

https://www.ladygodivas.ca/Strange Sex Laws.htm

The law in Doha, Qatar, requires that if a naked Muslim woman is surprised by a man while bathing or dressing, she must first cover her face, not her body.

So being gay helps your stardom? raaaaciiiisssstttt.......

Please don't create a new thread to ban me.....

It can... Just as long as there aren't many more homosexual basketball players. Once the sample size increases from 1, then we'll have other players to compare you to.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you.

It was directed at those wanting to ban people for having differing opinions. It was a cheap attempt at humor...
Well then he is also the gay basketball player with the least amount of star power.

Dude was horrible. Have no idea how he even made the league. I know of about 3 big men in the state of Utah who I'd take over John. Tai Wesley (Utah St), Foster (Utah), and Davies (BYU). And I'm not even joking....

see this is why soccer and europe both suck.

how can they allow north korea to have a team.

how can they allow qatar to host the goddamn world cup?

those countries don't even deserve to keep their sovereignty, let alone get to participate in sporting events with the united states.

Seriously guys, this deserves more discussion. I mean 2 topics that matter as much as soccer and gay sex comments shouldn't be taken lightly.
