Flip Saunders wants Matt Harpring Fired

Harpring has a small point to tanking even though he didn't express it very well. Instead of accusing others of tanking (which is easy, but stupid when you lose to them)when that's the way the system is setup, he should have given solutions to it. Quick and easy fix to tanking. Go back to 1985 and open up lottery to equal chances for everyone who didn't make the playoffs. You either strive to make the playoffs or take your 1/14 chance. The other is just let the bottom teams into the playoffs with a quick best 2 out of three and an exciting chance for a "hot Cinderella" (like saying that) team at the end. <cough >Jazz<cough>

Anyone who thinks that front offices, who are keenly aware of the need to build competitive teams, do not consider the connection between losses, draft positioning, and best use of assets, is kidding themselves. I don't think any of them have a full "lose this game Flip, we need the ping pong balls" mentality, so the coach and players still play to win. But it isn't a stretch to see a front office looking at their players, the games coming up, and making calls like "ok we won't play these guys to let them recover from their 'injuries'" knowing that it is more likely for a team like the Jazz to notch the win.

No way, I love Harp's stat counting. "Gobert blocks a shot. That's one, Boler, thats one! How many tonight! That gives Rudy 163 on the year!" And I love Rudy, but lay off the endless stat counts. Hopeless childlike homer too often.

Harpring isn't that bad. If you want awful, listen to Scott Hastings (of the Nuggets group) for a game.

You know what's crazy? There are still teams that don't even televise every game. Before the game against the T-Wolves, I saw that somebody retweeted the team's official account saying that there was no TV for the game. I totally take being able to watch every Jazz game for granted.

Harpring is annoying sometimes, but he's still light-years better than Steve Brown. I don't think he said anything that should get him fired. Flip's just being oversensitive.

Adding to the thought of being oversensitive, you can kind of see where Flip is coming from since he has control over personnel as well as coaching. People have different opinions on what tanking is, but any definition of tanking involves coaches and/or front offices.

I dunno I actually prefers Boone to Harpring. He's a bit more insightful when it comes to basketball. Harpring needs to step up his game with the Xs and Os of basketball, IMO.

Boone is so funny. Like an old man after a stroke, stuttering, never finishing his thoughts, talking out of turn .... they guy is hilarious.

I don't think Harpring is that bad. He's definitely a little goofy, but it keeps the broadcast light which is the role of a color man.

I think it's ridiculous for Flip Saunders to demand that he be fired. It's not like this is something that isn't talked about all the time by different analysts all the time. It's also something that should be talked about. Whether it's resting players for the playoffs or fielding a crappy team that has little chance to win, it is diminishing the NBA product. Tickets aren't cheap and when I spend my hard-earned money to see the Jazz play, I expect that both teams to be at least putting their best effort out there.

There's a fine line between what the Jazz did last year (and arguably how they started this year) and what Minnesota did for their game. If they really only have 7 players ready to play, why aren't they signing some 10-day contracts? Why aren't they pulling in some players from the D-League? There is a difference between handing over the team to inexperienced players and letting them develop and not even making the effort to field a full team.

You can't tell me that if Minnesota had been trying to secure a spot in the playoffs that they would have let that roster stand. But because they are fighting for the top pick in the draft, they let it go.

(BTW, the irony is not lost on me that we lost to this obviously tanking team.)

the Wolves ARE tanking. Just by chance that their 3 best players have been injured all year... yeah it's a tank. It's refreshing to hear Harpring be honest and voice his opinion

I like a little homersim in my announcers. They are our guys and I don't care if other teams and their fans don't like it.

I like Bolerjack and Harpring fine.

I agree he's hilarious. But he's a horrible color commentator. I cringe every time he covers for Harpring.

Boone is all right next to Bolerjack. The worst-case scenario for games is when Steve Brown does play-by-play with Boone doing commentary. I hate when that happens.

Right there with you. What also happens is all the other teams seem to find ways to stream our broadcast and complain consistently about the commentators. I think Hot Rod was a little better at not being as much a homer. Hot Rod and Boone were the perfect combination.

You're right that Hot Rod was the best. As for the other point, I couldn't care less what other teams' fans think of our announcers. :)
