Following 2016 potential draftees

I compiled a list of SGs (or players who see a fair amount of time at the 2) taken in the 1st round from drafts 2006-2015 with wingspans no longer than 6'8. The further back I went, the harder it was to find wingspans listed, so the list isn't 100% accurate (I didn't list them if their wingspan wasn't available).

Make of it what you will:

JJ Redick - 6'3
Steph Curry - 6'4
Jimmer Fredette - 6'5
CJ McCollum - 6'6
OJ Mayo - 6'6
Rudy Fernandez - 6'6
Randy Foye - 6'6
Terrence Ross - 6'7
Tim Hardawy Jr - 6'7
Austin Rivers - 6'7
Dion Waiters - 6'7
Rodney Stuckey - 6'7
Garry Harris - 6'7
Jrue Holiday - 6'7
Brandon Knight - 6'7
Avery Bradley - 6'7
Brandon Roy - 6'8
Devin Booker - 6'8
Nik Stauskas - 6'8
Zach LaVine - 6'8
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope - 6'8
Brad Beal - 6'8
Evan Fournier - 6'8
Evan Turner - 6'8
Gordon Hayward - 6'8
Rodney Hood - 6'8
Eric Bledsoe - 6'8
Russell Westbrook - 6'8
Daequan Cook - 6'8
Maurice Ager - 6'8

*Interestingly enough, the two tallest players from this list are Hood and Hayward.

You could add Wes Matthews to that list too. He measured at 6'8.25, so basically 6'8.

*NVM, didnt read 1st round*

Denzel Valentine is the highest IQ player in this draft period.
Coaches son
Coached by Tom Izzo for 4 years. Was same kind of leader and stat stuffer at MSU as Draymond Green was. Green said it best when he called Valentine a guard version of himself.

I like Valentine. He strikes me as a rich man's Kyle Anderson and then some. Valentine works hard and improved his dismal FT% through practice. I like Korkmaz and Davis as well.

Once you take out the players that are actually point guards, it's a fairly bleak list. But we should wait until the combine before going any farther.

I don't think it's that bleak. I just think the SG position is generally thin.

Maybe later I'll compile another list of SGs with better length so we can compare the groups.

Jamal Murray's wingspan is also only listed as 6'6.5, yet most seem high on him. And he's nowhere near the athlete that Beasley is.

I wouldnt hate drafting denzel valentine. It would say to me the jazz were done baking and want to move forward. Valentine is ready to play day one. Luwawu is a project as is korkmaz although i think LuwAwu is more readt then kork.

I am still firmly in the draft a big in this draft and fill the wings in free agency.

I'm not psyched about Bender as an NBA player. He runs the floor and passes really well for a big. He's long. Has decent mobility. He's pretty fluid handling the ball, but I don't think he'll be asked to do that much. What am I missing?

Is he a knock-down shooter? He doesn't seem to have a ton of offensive versatility and takes a while to gather himself.

I'm not convinced he has star power either.

Marquese Chriss looks like a top-10 talent in this draft. I'd put him ahead of Skal, Luwawu and Ellenson. His percentages in the Pac12 are better than Jaylen Brown's, and he's younger and more explosive than Brown.

Can chriss play the 3 or is he just a 4?

Meyers Leonard was all those things coming into theleague. So was Cody Zeller. Since it Jazzfanforum rules I can only compare him to other white players.lol

IT and IQ

Im sorry but I don't see him having the IT factor in the NBA. He is not athletic nor a great dribbler... Good shot.. Best case Rip Hamilton, MIddle ground Kyle Korver or maybe bust.. I see him a good 6th man Vinnie Johnson style. Starter on a non playoff team. He has a frame that can be strong but I don't ever see his athletic ability improving..
