Following 2016 potential draftees

I'd take him at 12. Either you think a guy can play or not. There were people in 2013 that liked Giannis or even Rudy, but said that exact thing. "Really like Giannis but 9 is just too soon."

I don't remember Rudy back then but I remember liking Giannis a lot and being down for taking him. Loved his skills and ceiling. Zizic though looks limited. No offensive touch around the rim. Mediocre length. Questionable defense. I think based on his pros he'll have a very solid career as a backup becase he always hustles and is athletic but I don't see him ever being more than a backup. That's fine though. He looks fantastic getting down the court and finishing in transition, much better than any of our current bigs.

The guy I see with a killer ceiling is Qi. He looks like he gets up the court fairly well and seems faily quick and agile for a guy of that size. Likewise, he also appears to hustle and rotate well on d which isn't always the case with bigs. Add in a really nice looking perimeter shot (really reminds me of Dirk) and I see a ton of potential. Zizic looks safer to me but Qi could be a grand slam selection. I'm just not sure how he'd fit in in Utah or if his agent would be a pain in the *** in trying to get him somewhere with a larger Asian population. Thon too has a killer upside but his iq looks low to me.

We can pick apart any prospect, but at the end of the day, at 19, his production wins out. He compares favorably - though very similar to Jokic - who played in the same league and entered the draft at the same age. Both guys about 6'10" - 6'11" 250-255 and both dominated at age 19. Jokic, despite being drafted in the second round is better than more than half of the top 10 picks in the draft.

If you don't like him enough to draft him at 12, I won't begrudge you that, but for me, his dominance at a young age puts him there.

His A/TO rate is God awful though. A complete black hole. Way worse than Jokic. That worries me in the system we're trying to build here.

FWIW, Chad Ford has moved Malachi Richardson up to #13 on his big board. He thinks he has "unlimited potential."

What is he turns out more like Nurkic than Jokic though? Nurkic isn't a bust but his super efficient .60 Adriatic TS has been dropped to an abysmal .46 in the NBA.

But but but Stifle GUARANTEED we wouldn't be keeping our pick this year...
We could still trade the rights to the pick. Remember, DL said he had a deal that he expected to make in the summer. Might have to wait until the cap goes up before taking on a veteran for cheap assets.

But hey, what do I know. I expected DL to make a deal to push for the playioffs. Wanted a steak and we got a Big Mack instead.

I still really like Korkmaz. Think he's more creative and shifty than Evan Fournier and Marco Belinelli. His passing and mid-range game give him even more upside. Not sure if he can defend yet, but he'd be a reasonable pick in the late lotto.

I'm really high on Marques Chriss. His measurables are right there with Aaron Gordon, and he's a more natural scorer.

a few things - one, like you said, he isn't a bust as he played last season at 21 and had a PER of 16. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. two, there is no fool proof method for any of this, but imo, young guys who produce in the top euro leagues is a good starting point. One of the problems with Nurkic is that while his efficiency numbers were good, he didn't play nearly the minutes guys like Jokic and Zizic played. third, Nurkic might be the worst run/jump athlete in the league. His max vert is a dismal 23 inches. and he's 280+, while Jokic and Zizic are in the 250 range - they move so much better.

but to your point, of course none of this is an exact science and there is always a chance of any of these guys, from #1 overall to the last pick of the second round busting.

Ellenson is much, much more skilled out on the floor than Kanter was. He seems a bit similar to Lyles, but I think Lyles has more upside and is a better passer. Ellenson's 3-pt percentage doesn't quite say stretch-5 to me. More likely a 3rd big. I don't think he's the right target for the Jazz.

Ellenson shot twice as high a % from 3 than Lyles did... on more than twice as many attempts.

But to Mack's credit, at times, he did play like an Angus burger.

Who is the best 3-and-D perimeter player? That's the target.

Luwawu? Prince? Baldwin?

I would be happy with any of those 3 at #12.

Not only are all good 3 and D candidates, but they add much needed swagger/aggressiveness.
We need more of these types of players in the playoffs, and close battles. These are the
types of players who will push us over the top in the playoffs, and grueling regular season
battles. That and a killer shooter of course.
