Following potential 2012 draftees

It's going to take a lot of time to make me a believer in a player like Rivers.

If the Jazz make the playoffs and the chips fall right, they could still walk away with Miller and Machado. I would be nothing short of elated.

That would be great, for sure.

This last week in two games Damien Lillard averaged 37.5 ppg, 5 apg, 2 rpg and 1 spg. Not too bad, terrible competition, but he's playing well.

For the season he's averaging 25.5 ppg, 3.8 apg, 5.4 rpg, and 1.2 spg while shooting 48% from 2 and 46% from 3. I'm impressed.

Davis is definitely #1 right now. Drummond has more potential, but Davis is more likely to actually reach his potential.

Here's an interesting question...if Favors was in this draft class, where would you rank him?

Trying to be objective and remembering what Favors looked like as a Freshman, I would probably go:

1 Davis (Franchise changer)
2 Robinson (He's just playing too well.)
3 Favors (prototypical athlete and work ethic)
4 Drummond (If I had a dollar every time I heard the word 'potential'...)
5 Miller (sweet player)
6 Barnes (money shooter)
7 Moultrie (potential beast)
8 Sullinger (big and skilled)
9 Kidd-Gilchrist (ultimate energy player)
10 Perry Jones III (upside if he can focus)

There would be 0% chance Robinson goes above Favors and Drummond. He doesn't have the measurements and is a junior.

Watching this next draft class play makes the pain of losing a bit more dull.

Is Damian Lillard a pure-PG prospect? I've been out of the state the last few years and haven't been able to follow him at all. Any chance he falls to that second round area where our pick from NJ will be?

Who intrigues you more, Lillard or Machado as a possible PG to take a chance on?

...maybe i'm wrong, do the jazz not get NJ's second round pick this year?

They're both intriguing but I'd roll the dice on Machado as the PG prospect, no slight to Lillard.

No, we only get our 2nd round pick this year.

I actually played in the CIML conference in HS. Same conference as Ames high school which is where Harrison Barnes played HS ball (as well as Doug McD from Creighton) I would be ecstatic if we could get our hands on him. I played against him and he was crazy good. We were named to 2009 All-District together. This guy seriously is more than just a talent. He is a great guy and works extremely hard. I think he fits the build of the kind of players in Utah that we like. I really hope to see him on the Jazz.

Now besides us getting him (which I doubt we will) I would really like Machado in the second round. The assist numbers he has put up are crazy good. In the first round I would like a SF. If Miller comes out I would want him, if not I would be cool with MGK. But, I don't seem him falling past 5 to be honest. Terrence Ross is an athletic shooter, that might fit the system.

Barnes and Rivers might be guarding one another this will be interesting.

I will bet if we get 2 lottery picks, one of the picks is spent on a big (Moultrie/Sullinger/Lenard/Henson/Melo).

Everyone knows of my dislike of Jefferson, and if he is indeed moved, we bring in a big for depth but also due to Millsap's contract being up in a few years. Will we spend the money to keep him vs. having 3 young bigs?

I hope we don't but wouldn't suprise me....

With that being said, outside of Sullinger I haven't watched any of them listed above.. Anyone have feedback?

Of those guys.. I like Leonard he is a pretty athletic big. He is actually a true center and might be nice to have his length. I think he would be a good defensive big to backup Kanter. Although, I don't know his post game. I do know that he is pretty athletic.

I feel like Henson could be Brandon Wright like.

Fab Melo I think would just be a pretty big project. Although, he looks to have a somewhat decent shot from 10-15. But, his post moves aren't good and he is not very athletic.

Moultrie is pretty good all-around on offense. His defense is not very good for someone that is as athletic as he is.

I love Sullinger I would take him as well.

I watch Moultrie a lot. He is kind of like a 6'11 Millsap. A great rebounder, but more of an offensive rebounding machine than a dominant rebounder. Has range to the 3 point line, but chooses to not shoot them unless an ideal opportunity presents itself. Is a fairly good midrange shooter, but his shot is kind of a line drive. Doesn't have a lot of post-up moves, but he operates very quickly in the post. Will be an alley-oop machine in the NBA if he is paired along side a competent PG.

Biggest complaint about him is that he can disappear at times, and that he isn't a shot blocking threat despite being 6'11 and athletic. Defensively he is nothing to write home about.

Also a hard worker who puts a lot of time into improving his game, ala Millsap.

Is there anyway both teams could lose?

:p

If it wasn't for the slight possibility that we could draft Barnes (not that I really want him) I would wish for him to die tonight. And Ryan Kelly....especially Ryan Kelly. He needs to die.

Right now Chad Ford's mock lotto has the Jazz taking Cody Zeller from Indiana, or Brad Beal depending on how the chips fall. He's got the Jazz taking Quincy Miller with the 14th pick. I'd be great with Miller, I love MKG to death. Lots of talk here about Machado, what about Kendall Marshall, another pure point?
