What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

No, it's because the team only shoots three pointers and their big men are beyond soft. I hate watching the team this year. There have been past Duke teams I have liked, but this year they are just plain annoying to watch.

You're not alone in this respect. This was probably the hardest year for me to watch...I mean, record wise Duke had a good year, but you could just tell they weren't a great team. Austin Rivers was fun to watch though.

Welp, take Rivers out of this draft folks. I'd be very surprised if he came out now.

Yeah I said that a while back during the ACC tournament, he's staying for another year. He really enjoys Coach K and more importantly, Doc Rivers enjoys Austin being coached by Coach K.

Meh, I laugh when people rejoice over Duke laughing. I mean, I get that it's a huge upset and it's awesome...but people love to hate on Duke. It's only cause we're Duke...hatin cause you're jealous is just a bitch-made move. Makes me laugh at them.

I think we can find common ground there.

OHHH...almost forgot to post this. Ray McCallum is a young PG prospect that I really like from Detroit. High ranking prospect who went to Detroit because his dad coaches there...good player. Playing against Kansas, check him out if you have the time.

Actually, I think the rap is that Duke has a reputation of being a bit snobbish. Kind of like Lakers fans. Not a big deal to me though. My sister went to Duke.

As much as I wish I could, I can't deny that rep. Duke does have some absolutely terrible fans, most of them are bandwagon fans though. It's kind of like how Kentucky has some of the most uneducated fans in college ball, there's just no getting away from it.

/I had to PKM.

I'm aDuke fan myself, and the most disappointing thing about the team was our defense. Coach K tells his team he doesn't mind quick 3's in transition as long as they bust their tails and defend - and this year's squad was one of the worst defensive teams in recent memory. We've had soft bigs in the past, but we've offset that with strong guard play. Our guards have all the talent in the world but not the toughness the greats have had in the past. Next year I hope to see alot more toughness out of Curry and Dawkins.

Never understood the hate for Duke - because all they do win and they graduate players. Not saying they're the only program that does it, but that's something to be proud of - not hated on. IMO part of the hate comes from the media and espn constantly pumping Duke up and placing them on a pedastal - so resentment starts to form from other fan bases - but I don't think Duke should be held at fault for that.

Duke doesn't have much inside game. They're a perimeter team with a 3-guard line-up. If their shots aren't falling and they're playing a team that's strong inside, they're in for a long night. Their guards (Curry, Dawkins, Cook, Rivers) weren't hitting tonight.

Both true. Both unfortunate. UK alumni, though, rule the $ scene .. educated or not.

In all sports, the most winningest programs are the most hated. Makes sense, actually.

Seriously. Y'all sound like Laker's fans with "Why do people hate us so much? All we do is win and get the best players in the country. Woe are us Duke fans!".

Our guards do not have all the talent in the world, Rivers is great and has fire, he's the only guy I like really. Curry can shoot well, but he has a weak handle for a lead guard and shoots too much, doesn't play good defense and isn't athletic at all. Dawkins can jump and shoot, but he has no handle, slow laterally, and he's not particularly quick. He also has issues with confidence, if he misses his first 2 or 3 shots, he's done for the game. Just take him out. I actually like Mason Plumlee, him and Rivers are the heart and soul of this team right now, but the rest of them are bums. Quin Cook could be good if Coach K would ever play him, Michael Gbinje is a good defensive player with size and fairly athletic at a position where we need somebody like that (SF) and for some reason he never got off the bench. I disagree with the philosophy of Duke this year and if Rivers and/or Mason Plumlee leave, we will not be a good team next year.

Basically no one on Duke can play defense. If the 3 isn't falling they can't win against good competition.
