What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

We recruited him .. (Gillispie ..........) .. I'm not sure about that. This is one, though, that I may not want to weigh in on.

He has put up some really good #'s his freshman year. His assist numbers are nothing to write home about, but he is shooting 50% from the field, and 40% from deep as a freshman and has had some huge games.

This is a little off subject, but where did Hantlers go?

I left to go cry. No, I actually left to go see one of my best friends younger brother play in the state championship game tonight...it was a good decision. Screw Duke and all their 3-point shooting.

I've mentioned it before, but worth mentioning again .. someone with a late 2nd round pick could find a real gem in Darius Miller. Intangibles a 10+.

6'8 230lb guy that is lights out from the perimeter (shooting 50% in the 2nd half of this season). Big rebounder, great defender, glue guy. Mid-range game. Elite handles. Supreme athlete. Has played all 5 positions for UK. He could play (purely) either the 2 or 3 in the NBA.

Only knock is he's too unselfish. He has the ability to take over a game, but yields too much to the other guys. Probably not all that bad of a trait in the NBA though?

I think you're overrating him a bit. If his only weakness is being too unselfish, he would still be a lottery or first round pick. There has to be other things he is not good at. One small thing like that doesn't knock someone down to the second round

Yeah, he just isn't that good.

Then answer the question, specifically. Is it his shot that's poor? His handles? Hie rebounding? His passing? His hustle? Character? What is he lacking, Cy? Be specific, please.

He is lacking being good at anything. He is just decent at everything.

That's kind of what I'm saying. He's a good rebounder, good passer, good handles, (all above average) and a VERY good shooter and VERY good athlete. All in a very fluid 6'8 (and strong) body. I did say late 2nd round ... so I'm not sure why I'd be accused of 'overrating' him. Silly, really.

With all due respect, I don't see some of it in his stats. 2.7 rebounds per game in 26 minutes is good for a guy who's 6'8"? But as a late 2nd, I hear ya.

Anthony Davis with another monster game, as usual) playing at Florida.
22pts (on 13 shots), 12rbs, and 6blks (also 2 of 3 from 3 in the past 2 games)
What's amazing about Davis is he pulls down 12boards and 6blocks and only has 1 foul for the game.

MKG only took 7 shots. 7pts, 8rbs, 4asts, 2stls

TJones - 19pts (1/1 from 3), 4rbs, 1ast, 2stls, 3blks

Fair. The rest of the story is his rebounding numbers are cut in half this year ... playing alongside Davis, Jones, and MKG .. tough for anyone to get a rebound .. also, he's playing on the perimeter this year moreso than in the past. But, like we said, 'late 2nd round.'

PKM, I don't think you're understanding what he said. He said he is decent at everything, not good or elite or supreme at anything. Big difference. You're overrating him by saying he has elite handles, supreme athleticism and above average rebounding skills and passing. If he had those, he'd be a lottery pick.

I'll say he has great athleticism and is a great shooter. Everything else average, especially rebounding. He averages less than 3 boards, don't know how thats great

Okay, damn, I'll try explaining myself even better. I meant compared to others that would be considered in the late 2nd round. I'm not so stupid to suggest that a should-be lottery pick is under the radar and can be had in the late 2nd.

*I'm not mad, just frustrated that I'm taking so many posts to explain what I thought was an easy concept. If I could turn back time .. I would have kept it to myself, lol.

You seem to be forgetting that just being a Kentucky athlete automatically means that you're above average at everything.

Ok, well that makes more sense if that's what you truly meant. Although I have some weird hunch believing that you think he really is that good at everything:p

I meant it the way I said it .. late 2nd.

Having said that, he's as good at shooting the ball and is as good as an athlete as anyone in the draft .. or VERY close. He's the best athlete on UK's team and is hitting 50% from three the past 20 games. That is an intriguing player in the late 2nd.
