Following potential 2012 draftees

Depends where we're picking. Marshall, Beal, Lillard, and MKG are the four I hear most associated with the Jazz .. but almost exclusively from UK sources, so there could be some slant.

Thanks PKM. I'm high on 3 of the 4. I really hope Ut. Hard up for MKG, and are thinking of ways to move up in the draft to get him, maybe a pick Jefferson and a future pick. With MKG I think our team is close to complete. All that would be left is to fill the roster with roll players, a shooter defender backup big.

It's because every NBA team comes to the games and the Jazz have been represented at at least a half-dozen practices. Believe it or not, conversations take place .. and not always about UK players. I only mentioned the guys that I've heard mentioned most often .. not that they necessarily feel they'll get them.

You know who the Jazz favor more, Marshall or Lillard?

Anyone have any gut feelings about who we're going to draft? Just wondering, cause even though I'm open to the idea of drafting Miller, I don't really see the Jazz actually going through with that. I'm feeling either Rivers or Marshall (assuming we don't trade up).

If the Jazz are drafting in the 8 - 10 range, it generally makes sense to get a good, young point guard like Marshall or Lillard. It's hard to get a stud PG or combo guard via trade. Whereas, the Jazz should be able to look for wing players through trade or later in the draft. That said, if a player like Beal or PJ3 is available, the Jazz have to be templed. They'll probably also take a hard look at Rivers, Miller and maybe Ross. It's just easier to develop a make-shift wing player like they've done in the past than get a starting caliber PG late in the draft.

Edit: The PG generally has more impact on Ws and Ls than wing players, even good ones, just based on the amount of usage and where points are coming from. In the past, teams have picked top SFs like Grant Hill, Glenn Robinson, Rudy Gay, Antawn Jamison, etc. and it didn't translate to wins as efficiently as getting a game-changing PG has.

Edit Edit: You could look at Lebron James obviously, but he actually impacts the game best when he controls the ball like a big PG.

I have asked that specific question and gotten the run-around. Trying to read between the lines it appears to be Marshall over Lillard.

If I had to guess, I would guess Marshall would appeal more because he can run an offense and make others around him better with his elite passing. He's also got a bit more size and played against higher level competition. Putting Marshall on the floor with the other young players (who can all score) should be all the offense any team needs.

Hope the Jazz will get both Lillard and Marshall in for a workout though.

I think if you could read KOC's mind it would go something like this. Marshall we love his ability to run the team and get scoring out of the other 4 people on the court. He is learning to pick his spots to score but will he be able to guard at the next level. As far as lillard we like his ability to score at a high level from inside and out. He sees the floor well and seems to fit into the mold of a current nba pg would do well with our superior passing wings can he do it at the next level.

Who does he like more to early to tell but we have played better with Watson and tinsley player over Harris.

How serious is Marshalls injury?
Do you guys think it will hurt his positioning in the draft order much?
What are the mocks saying about when lillard and marshall should go?

Marshall's injury is a total non-event.
No effect on his draft stock.
Most consider Lillard and Marshall almost interchangeable as to when they're selected .. around 11/12.

I don't know if Marshall is going to work out wherever he's drafted, but I think on a team with a breadth of good options as oppose to one or two other really good players. Especially since in the latter scenario that means that he might not be able to handle the ball as much.

I'd be happy with Lillard or Marshall, but all of a sudden, I just think Marshall could be the piece that makes everything work.

Well, him, or Deron Williams...

PKM didn't even acknowledge my picture. He must be Calipari himself!

You know what ..? UK has all kinds of haters. Gotta pick the battles. Your post was funny, I laughed, I really did .. but I'm not sure how to spend the energy sometimes .. I should have acknowledged your post, though, because you're a fellow SEC fan and an apparent lover of cbb.
