What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

Personally, I’m higher on Marshall than most. I too believe that his “floor-general” skills (passing, vision, ballhandling, ability to lead the break) are superior and only appear in a few PG prospects every decade. What he lacks in scoring ability, he makes up for in other areas. However, don’t forget that he in the last month of the season (when he REALLY won me over), he really came on offensively. I would argue that he was the best player in America during that stretch outside of Anthony Davis.

Ultimately, I’m skeptical about making an aggressive move to draft him. I predict that he’ll test out as a better athlete than expected at the draft combine, and will ultimately be a top 5/top 6 pick. Those picks don’t come cheap. I would hate to part with any of Hayward, Burks (I believe that’s our starting 2/3 in the near future), Favors (ha!) or Kanter. It’s also a serious risk to part with either Al or Paul at this juncture – this team is looking to compete right now, and giving up either is banking on Enes becoming a major contributor next season. The only one of those six I would be comfortable losing via trade is Burks, but I question how much other teams would value him. Plus, if you trade Alec, you then have a gaping hole at the 2/3 spot.

On the other hand, I would love to have Kendall going forward. He’s the type of player you could build a PG-friendly system around, a style of basketball which has been our bread and butter for going on 30 years now. He will never crack the echelon of Paul, Williams, Rose (pre-injury), Westbrook, and co., but I could see him being a top-10 PG for the next decade and consistently hovering around the top 2-3 assist leaders in the league (9-11 APG, 13-15ppg). That is absolutely worth a top-5 pick in damn near any draft.

It’s definitely an option for our PG hunt. One of our more intriguing ones. I’d still prefer to see Nash in a Jazz uni for the next 2 (preferably) to 3 seasons at around $9/$10m per, and letting our long-term PG solution unfold a little more naturally than a roster-shaking trade. But we’ll see. If Kendall is the guy, Utah Jazz summer league basketball will be must-see TV come July.

Wow! Jason Kidd is LOFTY! 30 year old version or not, he is no Kidd. Seriously, other than court awareness and passingwhat does he bring? He does not board like Kidd nor is he the athlete Kidd was (thats not saying much). He is not the scorer Kidd was either. He is an average PG at best IMO.

And why would anyone want to trade Burks at this point? the most dispointing young for me is Kanter by a mile. Im not sure he turns into anything more than Al Jefferson at the most. I believe Goran is the short term answer for the PG spot. He seems like a Jazz player to me. He is very gritty and has a desire to win. This offseason we need to address the lack of shooting ability our current players have. I think Goran fixes two holes. If we can trade Jefferson or Kanter for a top 10 pick im all for it, but i dont think anyone will be banging on our door to make this happen.

Also if any GM thought that he was a younger version of post 30 Kidd he goes number 2 no doubt. Thats not even close to the case. He is more Mark Jackson than anything else. Kidd? LMFAO!

I'm just one of the forward thinking negative nancys that's sad the jazz made the playoffs. Especially against the spurs. I'm so bored I'm tempted to not even watch. But I will 'cause I'm like that. Wah. But that pick maybe coulda been Marshall or Lillard or Rivers. And if all was left was Rivers either you keep him, or you could use him a deal to get Rondo.

Wah wah wah. Whatever here we are.

Back on topic. I've been impressed with Burks in his first year sans training camp. I would NOT want to trade him.

Think about how much Hayward's matured both physically and psychologically in just one year here. He was pretty shaky last year though his percentages don't really demonstrate that I suppose. In any case, he would be a senior right now had he stayed at Butler. The growth in those two years is astronomical. I see no reason Marshall can't improve that same amount. Marshall too could be light years ahead of where he was this year as a sophomore come 2014. If he can improve his athleticism (quickness, speed, first step, strength, jumping, overall conditioning, etc.) and shot (even just a little bit) like Gordo did, we'll have a steal at #8 or 9. I think if we can get him, have Stockton work with him over a summer or two, re-sign Evans (he's very cheap and brings strong intangibles and energy without crying for time) and sign Brandon Rush, we'd have one helluva ****ing roster taking shape.

Harris-Marshall-Tinsley-Watson
Hayward-Burks
Rush-Carroll
Millsap-Favors-Evans
Jefferson-Kanter

I am also very excited about Kanter next year. If I have faith in some guy being hard on himself and busting his *** to perfect his craft, it's Kanter. He could improve a freakin' ton when we take everything into consideration.

I agree with this. I also think that Burks sees the holes in his game and he seems hungry. Next year could be great.

If he is Mark Jackson (but not a douche), why should we not be excited to have him?

This is what Burks need to do. Not attack 'fast' all the time. He needs to also attack 'strong'.

I see your point, but guess what I meant is if we are comparing possible best case scenarios Kidd is not who he is. I am trying to recall some of Jacksons best years and all I am coming up with is top 15-20 PG. I dont think we should trade Burks and a pick for that.

First, someone has to leap frog Golden State. This will happen.
Second, the Jazz need to get the 15 or 16 pick they're rumored to be looking to acquire.

Then Jazz can draft Marshall at 8 and Quincy Miller at 15.
Both of those guys are far from their ceilings - which I only have a moderate confidence in them reaching - but given the position the Jazz are in it's a decent gamble. If one of them pans out I'll be thrilled.
...I wonder what it will take to get that 15th pick?

Haha, MKG just mailed me a b'day present .. "the NO-1 greater" national championship hat with his signature. I called him to thank him and bitch about him writing on an otherwise great hat. He said he's emailing a video of him signing with a birthday 'song.'

I admit I'm gloating a bit .. only because he is such a great, great kidd.

Cool. Happy B-day!

I approve this post.
