Following potential 2012 draftees

White hardly moves the meter for me. We don't need (more) undersized 4s, and we don't need a guy that can't spread the floor or guard anyone. He brings a bunch of stuff to the table the the Jazz don't need in a package that is underwhelming.

What is the dude's ceiling, anyway? AK without the athleticism/defense? A worse shooting and smaller Lamar Odom?

when I read the Royce White breakdowns I think: this dude sounds like a bigger, beefed up Alec Burks with attitude issues.

He's worth an early-20s pick. He seems like a bad fit due to shooting and defensive issues.

Is he really 6"8"? Who was it that just measured 6'3" - 6'4"?

I'm just going to keep rolling on this:

From everything I can gather, White is the ultimate do-it-all player, except for skills you actually need from him. Who ****ing cares if he can bench this or that so many times? The bench test is easily the most irrelevant thing measured at the combine. Maybe that helps you finish through contact, but what else? It's not like the guy can make a damn free throw anyway. Especially as a 3, what is that going to get you besides a bunch of extra weight? I'm not particularly interested in just how far my perimeter player can out-shove his opponent since that is, you know, a foul.

Okay, so he can handle the ball and has great vision and passing ability. Great, but does anyone think a team is going to run offense through a tweener forward, that can't shoot, and won't beat any SF he plays off the dribble?

He's a good rebounder. But you're asking him to be a three where his strength would be erased and he'd be taken away from the basket.

Sorry, nebulous talent worship drives me nuts. White as a perimeter-oriented 4 makes some sense, but there's not a lot of room for that niche with Sap here, in addition to our stable of #3 picks that were the yield for trading the away the franchise player. Give me Millsap 100 days a week.

Royce White's stat line vs. the National Champions (in the tournament) and one of the best defensive college basketball teams in recent history.

23 points
9/12 from the field
9 rebounds
4 assist
1 block
3 steals
5/9 from the FT line (yeah, that sucks)

Yeah, he has a lot of room for improvement but he is far from a finished product. He didn't play basketball competitively for 2 years, so he was in the same position as Kanter was experience wise. He shows a tremendous amount of basketball IQ for having played so little. That part of his game can only grow, along with his conditioning and shooting.

We will need a 3rd big down the line as it is far from a sure thing that Millsap will re-sign with us given the fact that there is writing on the wall that he might not be a starter 2-3 years down the line.

And I didn't mention his bench press as a reason we should get him, just saying it was pretty ridiculous number. He is built much like Kanter, were his whole body is just massively thick (not just his upper body, but his trunks), which will help him play in the post

Or Darius Miller.

I like basketball players that focus on the things that keep them on the court and help their teams win, then work from there more.

Well I guess to close the White topic for me, Cy and I actually agree to a point. Royce White is a big, plain and simple. It's him or Sap if you believe White will develop (and it would be very hard to develop him as currently constituted).

Believe me, Sap >>> White, but will Millsap be a 3rd big? Will he re-sign here? He is a unrestricted free agent and the price might be driven up to high to get him back. It's always good to stockpile bigs, especially when 2 of the 4 we have are going to be UFA's next year.

I guess that is all assuming Kanter will be good enough to start, because a Favors/Millsap starting lineup isn't inconceivable for the next 5 years if Kanter doesn't develop.

So sad that we have been forced to debate who we would rather have Miller or White. Just a few months ago i think we all had grander visions. This off season better not blow.

Any chance at all DLamb falls to us in the second, or would it be worth trading Harris for a mid to late first to draft him?

He could be a nice versatile player at both guard spots, and can shoot. His versatility would allow Burks to still get the minutes he needs, but this would mean the jazz would have to be sold on Hayward playing all his minutes at sf.

My understanding is that his stock has risen a lot. I don't have any inside sources, I just read up on as much of this stuff as I can when I can. He might go to Philly right after the lottery.

@Xthren - Gillie texted me that Jake's ball was shipped this morning, the bad news is he forgot to give the athletic dept your address and they've shipped it to me, which will delay it a day or two. I'll try to send it out the same day I get it, though. (The ball is a UK Nat'l Championship ball .. like this one, I think.) EDIT: Only I made sure it's not a mini .. like the one in the pic.
