Following potential 2012 draftees

A few quick thoughts...

Re: Tony Wroten - I would be wary of judgment or attacking his work ethic because he didn't get a rep up on the bench. Neither did Kevin Durant, and I don't think anyone is questioning his passion for the game.

Truth is, I'm not sure who Wroten is working out with right now, but I have been closely associated with strength and conditioning coaches at USC and Texas and can tell you that these guys working with prospects before the draft don't give two ****s about a lot of these combine measurements like the bench press. When in basketball are you ever making a movement even similar to a bench press? When KD was preparing for the draft, Todd Wright (legendary strength coach at UT) did not have him working on his measurables or his combine numbers - he was working on his game. Shooting, ballhandling, muscular imbalances, core strength, etc. Of course, I'm not comparing Wroten to KD, just saying that I'm surprised at how far he's slipped given his immense talent and his on-court production in his one year at UW. He's substantially flawed and needs to see plenty of pine off the bat, but a drop to round 2 would stun me. I see his ceiling as top-5 of any player in this draft. (Note: admittedly, I'm not privy to any attitude concerns about TW if there are any, so take that into consideration).

RE: Teague/Lamb - Personally, I am moderately high on both of these guys at the point there slated to go in the draft (20's/early 30's). I think they're both great value picks at that spot, particularly Lamb with his smarts, shooting, and ability to play both guard spots. However, I'm not convinced that Teague is anything more than serviceable in the NBA - a career backup, spot starter. I think we're better with Harris in the short-term.

The makeup of this team is geared towards the long run. If I'm KOC/Greg Miller, my #1 priority right now is getting our franchise PG, someone who we view as a cornerstone of a championship team. Personally, I'm high on both Lillard and Marshall.

Lillard can score it, stroke it, plays with tenacity, and seems to have that Oakland hunger in him a la Gary Payton. The APG #'s don't scare me - Weber St. needed to him to get buckets. When he's got Hayward/Burks on the wing and is running the PnR with Favors, he'll dish out the rock.

Marshall is one of the most pure floor generals we've seen in a while and would immediately be a top-flight passer in the NBA. I would strongly argue that he was the best player in America outside of Anthony Davis the last two months of the NCAA season once he got his mid-range game going (though reportedly that boy bombed the combine).

If KOC is sold on one of those two guys, I fully support an aggressive move to land the player. If not, our assets are better used elsewhere. I just don't want to move up to #25 or #35 for our PG. I think that PG is the one spot on the floor where we shouldn't be stretching via free agency or the draft for need. It's got to be the right player - a serviceable player at #25 or #35 in the draft, while maybe a good value and added depth, doesn't change a whole lot for us. 3 mediocre PG's do not equate to one great one. We need our guy.

Tomas Satoransky (sp?) - Anyone know anything about this guy? He's massive and extremely intriguing - and I swear a lot of those Euro PG's are drafted waaaay too low (except Raul Lopez). At #47, I'm very interested...

My take on filling the sf spot.

If we some how traded up and Barnes was avail he would be my first choice. He tested a lot more athletic then was thought. In an offense where he doesn't have to be the guy he will shoot a lot better. A flex offense is ideally suited for his game. What Corbin is going to run is a mystery still.

Mo harkless is talented but the kid can't shoot. Needs to develope not what the jazz need.

Royce white have never been a fan. They claim he is a point forward type but he is not a good shooter either. To be perfectly honest for some one that has psychology as a hobby his psychological make up bothers me. I know that the fear of flying can be over come or at leased treated but nba players fly a lot. I see him as a ticking time bomb. I would pass.

Jeff Taylor is exactly what the jazz need. He is ready to play now being a senior. He likes to play defense. He is super athletic 40 inch verticle. He is a decent 3 pt shooter. He also improved ever year in school. He comes from a basketball pedigree. I think he is a lot like Shane battier and you look at what he is doing for Miami. He needs to become a better passer a d slasher and be able to pull up for jumpers but a lot of kids coming out of college need to learn that.

Quincy miller is an enigma. He has all the talent in the world and the size to go along with it but in my opinion hewas hurt in the head with his acl injury. He has regressed from the injury. If the injury has caused him to be tentative then he will never get better. This can also be worked on but I question his work ethics. I understand the fear of injury I have a hard time even watching basketball with out seeing players spraining their ankles. I can't even play any more because of it. I think Quincy is a nice risk in the second round. No guaranteed contract.

Darius miller has been talked about a ton I would take him in the early second maybe as a 28 to 30 pick. He like Taylor is ready now but I don't think he has quite the ceiling of Taylor.

Draymond green I love players that just win. He is a baller. Not a great shot though. He is also more of an undersized 4. There have been some successful players like him in the nba but not a need for the jazz.

Jae crowder his measurements killed him. I now know why he said he wanted to play sg in the nba but he can't shoot. I think him and Carroll are a little redundant. I would not cry with him at47.

Kris Middleton is the last player i will discuss for now even though there are others to discuss. At 47 he might be worth the risk. Not a good shooter and is skinny but there is something about him I like. He could be a Byron Russell type of player. Great mid range game though.

Royce White is a ticking time bomb of awesome. His fear of flying is overstated. He has been flying to and from workouts just fine and teams are raving about his interviews and workouts.

I don't know anything more than you do re: Tomas.

Wroten just isn't a PG, regardless of the >1 bench press. I've dogged him enough here that I'll refrain from doing it again.

Agree with everything else.

I think his anxiety disorders are more of a feel-good story than real anyway. I'm 50/50 on this guy. I kinda feel that he'll either be a real special player or do nothing at all. Although somewhere in the middle is by far the safe bet.

Yes, watched him quite a bit. Really liked his game a lot. Kind of a better (much) shooting AK..

I'd like to see Emir in the NBA too, he's being wasted in FB in Turkey. But to be honest, Emir is no where near AK defensively, and athletic wise.

If he can ever improve his shooting I think he can move into the special category. If not, he may just be a rebounder/3rd big who has a really high basketball IQ.

My kudos to all posters in this thread, I read after 300th page to the 475 or so and will read the rest, and I also read the last 25 pages too, now I'm ready to start my career as a scout thanks to this tread.

Seriously when you think about it, 576 pages is amazing.

Thanks Enes. Obviously, with 576 pages, there's a hell of a lot of opinions, there's plain stupid topics, jokes, re-hash, and hopefully the occassional insightful topics.

Glad you've joined the discussion.

And treasure hunting.

I've been moderately high on D. Miller. After watching the combine I'm even higher on him. Is he a superstar? No, but he'll be really solid. We will love having him on the team.

I also really liked Doron Lamb's defense. And of course his shooting. If he can play PG I really like him - especially at his projected draft position.

If the Jazz could get both D. Miller AND Doron Lamb I'd be very happy.

There really are a lot of good prospects in this draft. And a lot of parity.

Mhmm. Outside of the 'Brow, beauty is in the eye of the beholder at the top. However, picks #20 - #50 should yield a lot of quality players. It's a draft that should produce a lot of solid rotation guys.

I also think out of the 20 to 50 range will see a couple players make an allstar game in their careers.
