What's new

Following potential 2013 draftees

Just a quick shout out to the UK team from this past year. They never got it together on the court, but they were just awarded the 6th ranked amongst all BCS schools for academic excellence. 6 were honor roll.

excellent cheating job.

I know it's just a tired schtik and it doesn't bother me if you get no new material... but srsly, if you met kids like Knight, Poythress, WCS, Wiltjer etc.. as well as hundreds/thousands of other dedicated student-athletes across the country.. you could find a measure of gratitude they're not all me-first prima donnas.

i met all of them

all dummies

srs though, we know UK has high GPA because all of those white kids on the bench

Not necessarily the 'white' part, but yes, partially true.

Calipari never plays more than about 8 guys.. so he gives 5 guys scholarships for being practice guys and great students.... that helps a ton.
Also, UK has a tutor assigned to every player and if their grades dip below a certain gpa the tutor is permitted to spend as many hours as necessary. This is a paid tutor... more of an actual teacher. They have tons of advantages other kids don't have at other universities.. but I can still be proud of the hard work they put in. Patrick Patterson started the 'way' by working and studying during every road game instead of time off from school. He got his degree in 3 years through hard work. Darius Miller followed suit.. Jon Hood.. then Knight, etc. Its become a real culture. Cal is Very good at getting these guys to view their lives as a total career move from the day they step on campus.

Basketball is a smart man's game, more than any other. Well baseball comes close. Some football teams with smart QBs have risen almost to the level. It will never hurt having a head on your shoulders and using it. I think that was what made Stockton excellent.

kids who study on game trips might lose their "edge" on the floor, though. Mostly we all have limits and have to focus on what's most important throughout our days and weeks. Eat good, exercise, and like to study or think, and take pride in our physical abilities and skills.

So how many of Calipari's main eight get the grades, too???

Good post.

Each year there seems to be about 2 that are honor roll kids. Brandon Knight never missed a single day of school (K-12) and carried a 4.33 GPA. Alex Poythress is very similar.

Anyway, 2 honor roll, 4 - 3.0 average, and 2 that have to get extra tutoring to keep their grades at a C level. Overall, Cal's team is #1 in the SEC in academics against all other bb teams. (not saying SEC is the Ivy League, btw)

Where is the proof knight never missed a day. With classes like Pottery 101 and sports stretching why would you miss. Kentucky players go to school during the season but then when season is over half of them are working out for the draft instead of going to class. Kentucky has an academic school and what calapri is doing is a joke and mocks the ncaa. If one and dones didn't have to go to school calapri would be an average coach. Lives off the one and dones.

I said K-12. I never even mentioned his attendance at UK (which would be ridiculous because they travel/play on school days).
Google it. There have been many articles written on the matter.

I don't even know why anybody would respond to anything from that ncoloradojazz guy. He's nor interested in a polite discussion, neither has he ever written anything positive about the Jazz making me think he hates them too and all he attempts is to ruin everybody else's stay.

He is a Denver fan, but likely got IP banned from their forum. We have taken him in here as comic relief and a science experiment.
