Following potential 2013 draftees

21 isn't a hail mary for Schroeder. He's a legit prospect. He was everyone's darling for #14 20 minutes ago. If you look at the teams he's working out for, he sure thinks he's going mid first round.

I meant that he won't be there at 21.. I wurded it pourlee

I thought this was interesting....

Sam Amico @SamAmicoFSO When asked what he'd do if Cavs GM, opposing GM says:"Take player who will help you make playoffs NOW. You need that for sake of franchise."

A couple of weeks ago Amico reported that the Cavs owner gave the GM permission to do whatever he wanted with the roster or in the draft but they had to make the playoffs. It seems like this maybe the motivation come draft day. But if that is the case they can't take Noel. So do they move the pick or take Mclemore, Porter, or Len?

If they wanted to make the playoffs I think they could land Gasol from LAL. Cavs have multiple picks this year and more next.

I know this sounds crazy but this is a really bad year for the Cavs to have the #1 overall pick.

If I HAD to make the playoffs I'd trade the pick for a proven vet. If I HAD to take someone from this draft, I'd NOT like my options.

Noel = no.
McLemore = soft maybe
Porter = soft maybe
Len = no.
Muhammed = soft maybe

Yeah... trade the pick..

My point exactly. There is no one that can really help them get there this year in the draft. They need proven talent as well as depth.

Kinda like this is a bad year for the jazz to have two first round picks.

Not exactly. I'm just saying that all the skilled bigs have injuries (Noel, Len). They already have a SG that proved he can get it done (McLemore) and they could use a SF (Porter, Bazz) but taking him #1 would be a HUGE stretch.

They Jazz just need players. In a draft like this I think it is better to shoot for potential than anything proven. f it works out you win. IF it doesn't then you lose a bunch of games but set yourself up to draft a potential all star next year. I think that Jazz are in a great position this year. The one gripe I have is I wish that they could have two picks next year. That is the only gripe.

If they are stuck with it (crazy to say a team is 'stuck' with the #1 overall) I would go Porter because he can shoot and he fills a roster need. At worst they get a 4.5 million dollar CJ Miles type chucker who occasionally goes off.

But if the GM is under that much pressure to make the playoffs he should trade the #1 to the Jazz for Al Jefferson. Al is good for 41 wins and the playoffs in the East.

What other player would we have to take in that trade? (Not a bad idea, btw.. for both teams)

I think they have the cap space to sign Jefferson if they want him, so no need for a trade. Or they might be saving it for Lebron.

Yea, yur right. Al is UFA, Clevland can renounce all (or most) of thier cap holds and sign him. But still if I'm Cleveland GM and had to make the playoffs next year I would get Al. Not Gasol, not Bargnani, not Gortat, not Marion, not Nene, not Amare. (all the bigs I figure would be traded away if their current teams could). I wouldn't waste FA time & money chasing Bynum or Howard.

If the owner says make the playoffs this year or else.....there is no time to be sitting around waiting for Lebron next year.

Of course the draft related part of the issue: If Cleveland keeps the pick and passes on Noel, how far does he fall? Charlotte at #4?

Magic at #2.

Noel to interview with Wizards #3 this week.

also Magic #2 working out Cody Zeller?

At ESPN, @Chad Ford says Cody Zeller has scheduled a workout with the Magic insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2013/… (Insider)

Consecutive string of posts from October of last year... just for fun.

Still holding out hope for Kabongo.

Same. I've always liked him.

If Kabongo can turn himself into a speedy PG with a reliable outside shot then he would be perfect. The more I hear about Burks and Hayward the less I think that we need a traditional PG. The Jazz just really need someone who can create havoc and can hit the three ball.

Kabongo is fun and good .. but will not pan out to be an elite PG.

I guess we'll see within a few years. Mental toughness is a very important part of the game, and Goodwin has it more than most.

Not to nit pick.. but I wouldn't call him mentally tough as much as intense and has an inner fire more than most. He sulked too much when Cal would get on him.. which bugged me, but he's just a freshman.
