What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

A. I'm more interested in what he can do development-wise in a long NBA career. There's only so much that college coaches can actually teach a guy in one year of school. That's why the best athletes are the best players. Coaching can only help them so much in that one year from HS to the NBA.

B. This is why I'm interested in seeing what type of coaches Randle, Parker and Wiggins need once they get there. The idea is to build a franchise around them. That starts with the coaching staff.

C. That also happens to be the main reason that I want Ty Corbin nowhere ear that player once they acquire him. I'm all on board with the tank to get the pieces, but all that hard work and rough season is wasted if Corbin is still in Utah in any capacity next year.

Great post. I actually thought you were going another direction and was going to counter with basically what you said here. Nice.

Strong inside move by Parker. Bumps into his opponent to limit his ability to block and uses the glass for a powerful layup after faking didn't work.
Does he have some skin disease? His facial skin looks like a tanning experiment gone bad with all the inhomogeneous spots.

I'm shocked Randle isn't better at defense. I've always thought one of Calipari's strength when it comes to coaching was defense. I would imagine his defense will be much improved by the end of the year. Like I said earlier, I'm not the biggest an of Cal's coaching, but he does typically coach defense quite well.

It's like Arizona's offense is 0% tuned towarsd Aaron Gordon's strengths. Maybe they'll/he'll adapt till March but right now it seems like he's not involved.
And Parker is getting really friendly whistles today. That last move by Parker was a typical James Harden foul drawn. Gordon was quicker in the driving lane, Parker leans in and getts the whistle. Don't like it.

Good post.

Cal teaches stellar d.
Cal's teams most always suck at the FT line.
Cal's teams run poor out of bounds plays.
Cal's teams play poorly against a good zone.

He does things very well.. but themz sum bad ones.

Sean Miller is a very good coach. I trust there is a reason.
K is very good sideline... they'll always get the calls.

I think it's the player type that make these the case more than the coach

I wouldn't say player type-- I'd say player experience level. It's hard to expect freshmen to be studs at busting the 2-3, or running great out of bounds plays.

I'm by no means saying Aaron Gordon is hopeless, but if you're best hope to save face is excuse-making then you're not doing a very good job. Great players make things happen and Gordon isn't that. Not yet, at least.
