What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

Lebron airballed a free-throw? Was his shoulder dislocated or something? The only guys I ever saw airball a FT were Ben Wallace and Chris Dudley.

If you're talking about LeBron, I think LeBron brings more to the table that will allow you to overlook that.

What does Gordon do, that you think will allow him to come in and dominate one aspect of the game year one? Year three? Year five?

I don't see one trait that says, he dominate this: _______ in five years.

Embiid has defense.
Wiggins has defense.
Parker will score 25.
Smart will score 20 and has defense.

Those are the only for sure things in this draft. Everyone else has big time bust material. They might have high ceilings, but they also have loooooooow floors.

I respect this post, but I think both Exum and Vonleh have high floors, like Shaun Livingston and Rashard Lewis, worst case.

I think the Jazz can build a team around versatile inside-outside bigs with Kanter, Favors, Vonleh and Gobert. That's where we're going to get our mismatches.

The Burk Bros. will also score from different places out on the floor, and Hayward will go back to spotting up and facilitating.

I'd love to get James Young in this draft to complement it all though.

If Jazz stay at #5 I would lean toward Vonleh.
Not what Jazz really need but seems like best fit.
Jazz need a SF who nobody can leave open.
A SF who is a great shooter.
First available one is McDermott at maybe #8.
Should Jazz trade down with the #5 or trade up with the #23?
How do Jazz get one of the good shooters that will go between #5 and #23?

People concerned about Vonleh's motor, his stats and his disposition to dominate should keep in mind that he was playing out of position all year. He's not a center. He's a face-up player like Lamar Odom. He grew up playing SF in high school.

There are several shooters that will go in the teens----McDermott, Harris, Stauskas, Young, and Saric. I think they're all gone by 18 though.

I really want the jazz to move up to grab either stauskas or McDermott. I wonder if burks would be enough?

Wtf?
Burks > stauskas and mcdermott

Well, here's Aaron Gordon working out. You see a sequence where he hits 2 long jumpers in a row, without editing.

Wait you mean he hit a whole two jumpers in a row? GTFO! All kidding aside if he is our pick I'll get behind it as I'd do like him, but think we could put together a tremendous 3 guard rotation if snatched up smart.

The discussion for #1 is over. Per Chad Ford:

"Joel Embiid's measurements at the workout on Fri: 7' 1" in shoes, 7' 5.75" wingspan, 9' 5.5" standing reach.”

Yep. If he's healthy, you don't pass on 7'1" and 7'6" with that kind of ability. Plus he has a motor and a toughness to him.

Good man vermin.

Im the same way.... no one the jazz take at 5 would piss me off. Unless it was a huge reach for a james young, mcdermott, payne, etc etc

Actually, he hit 3 there. I could live with Smart too. Jazz aren't in a bad spot here.

I assumed Catchall was being facetious. Also, FWIW, he hit three in a row. The next Ray Allen for sure.

And kidding aside, I'm not a Gordon guy, but I do think he has a chance to be a special defender and should at least be a highlight reel for us even if he can't throw the ball in the ocean. I'd be okay with taking him at 5.

Agree.
I see Utah staying at #5 (price will just be too high to move up...if there even is an opportunity). And then I see DL trying to combine the #23 and #35 to move into the teens. If that fails, just stash a Euro or two and give them a couple of years to develop.

Ok, after seeing this video. My guy is now Aaron Gordon. There is nothing wrong with his jump shot. He can handle the rock. I am all on board with him. He could be a steal at 5.
