Following potential 2014 draftees

Embiid is my darkhorse top-4 pick.

It looks like Cleveland may have a pick to entertain the rest of the league...

Where's that Karl Towns kid going?

So apparently UK. Found this yesterday on sportando.

All of their measurements (no step vert, max vert, 3/4 sprint, lane agility, etc.) are exactly the same. I'll post them if you want.

I once read an article that looked at all the big men drafted in the past decade (this article was written in 2012, I believe) that put together a list of the overall finest physical specimens based on their combine results. Dwight was #1, Favors was #2.

I just don't think Favors displays his athleticism as much as Dwight (that's the real problem).

Maybe, but the eye test says Dwight has an extra 50 lbs over Favors.

Impromptu list of freak athletes:

- Lebron James
- Russel Westbrook
- John Wall
- Derek Rose
- Anthony Davis
- Gerald Green
- Javale McGee

Very impressive athletes:

- Eric Bledsoe
- DeMar DeRozan
- Dwight Howard
- Derrick Favors
- Paul George
- Kenneth Faried
- Andre Drummond
- James Harden
- Andre Iguodala
- Deandre Jordan
- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
- Tony Parker

Totally disagree with like 50%. James Harden? Comeon! He already plays like he's in his mid thirties...
Tony Parker just slides through the lane like he has butter under both his feet and on his jersey.
Paul George? If being mobile with great length and possessing incredible lateral quickness with quick hands is athletic we should maybe add Tony Allen.
Where's Nate Robinson?
Howard and Drummond with their unique physical qualities in tier 2?
Kenneth Faried? Come on! Being a hustler and going full steam doesn't make you athletic. Else you could add Noah...
Terrence Ross? Serge Ibaka? Where are they?

Those measurements were done when Favors weighed more than Dwight. At the time, Dwight could only do 7 reps on the bench press, Favors could do 14.

Doing benchpress reps doesn't give you a pivot game close to the basket that can make the defender look like flopping at the same time as suffering a concussion while falling on the floor.
The way he utilizes his power gives him a clear edge. But I liked the physicality Favors brought in yesterday game's first half.

Karl was not a freak athlete. He was ueberathletic, but primarily due to this work ethic. Freak athletes are born that way. Shawn Kemp was a freakish athlete at that time. Karl worked his *** off to be more athletic than any big man ever had a right to be, probably the strongest/fastest in combination big man ever really, but it took him working his *** off, he didn't get it all from mother nature.

Blake griffin, tbh

Griffin is the prototypical freak athlete of this generation really, right there with LeBron and Kobe in terms of raw natural athleticism.

Parker with a good line tonight, 21/10/3(ast) in 28 minutes.
4-6 from three.

I haven't cooled on Wiggins, but Parker has really impressed me. I think he is showing us that he belongs in
the talk for #1 player. Certainly if we end up with the #2 selection it makes us feel great about whoever falls to us.

This is exactly what we wanted before the season. All of these players to shine, and make us wet.

So far very early, but most of them seem to be living up to the hype! We need this in case we don't land
the #1 pick. We don't want this to be a one player draft. It may end up being Lebron and then a nod down with Carmello/Wade, but
looking back anyone is thrilled with those two consolation prizes. We just want to be happy, and have this losing season mean something.
All signs are pointing to epic-ness.

Karl redefined the PF position with his speed and strength. Pretty much considered a freak at the time.
I don't think this is true at all. Karl's strength was desire. The freaks of his time were guys like Derrick Coleman and Shawn Kemp. Karl destroyed these superior athletes through incredible determination and hard work.

It's an exercise in stupidity to split hairs about what defines a "freak". I couldn't be less surprised that the hive-mind is privileging leaping over the other 1,000 variables.

Carry on....

If you have the #1 pick in this draft, you take Wiggins and you don't think twice about it.

However what makes this draft special isn't Wiggins, it's the amount of talent available after Wiggins is gone. One of the strongest drafts from top to bottom that I can remember.

Would someone teach this 13 year old what really happened?

The problem with young Jazz fans is they didn't see Karl play in his prime. They remember the Finals Karl and not the young athletic quick Karl. That is a major reason why these young fans do not understand. Now Karl wasn't a quick jumper like Kemp or Griffin but there was no one stronger than Karl pound for pound in the NBA.

Of course hard work was part of the deal but Karl was strong at an early age. Karl was fast going straight ahead and he could jump high when he was younger. Now I don't think it was off the charts but he could get up there especially on the break when he wanted too. However, it was Karl's strength and his ability to run that made him a freak athlete.

Why most people don't think he is a freak athlete has to do with his lack of flash, quick jumping ability and spectacular dunks. Karl's strength and overall fitness maked him a freak.

That's the great benefit of tanking this year though right? Even if we are absolutely turrible we only have a 25% chance at no. 1, so the chance of getting Wiggins isn't all that high. Getting a top 4 pick ensures a very good player though and that's huge.

I really do feel like we're one all-star level player plus a few role players away from a very dominant team.

Obviously not a complete list. It's also hard to decide where to draw a line.

Rudy Gay, Ben McLemore, JR Smith, ....

Karl Malone had natural strength, speed, quickness, body control and endurance that Derrick Coleman couldn't touch. If you want to call it work ethic, then fine, but it's more than that. It's not a coincidence that his offspring are stand-out athletes.

Kemp was definitely a thoroughbred athlete. So was Chris Webber.

Yep, and I think that's a big reason why Lindsey was able to convince the rest of the FO to tank this year.
