Following potential 2014 draftees

I like Aaron Gordon the more I see him play. He plays big.

I think he would be a nice consolation prize. Even if we land around 9, maybe we could trade up to 6 or so to nab him.

DX released a video on Clint Capella. Givony has us taking him with the GS pick. He is playing very well on a per minute basis in the french league at just 19. Has Favor's like size and athleticism, obviously lighter at this point in time.

On top of the page it says "Team needs have NOT yet been taken into account in this mock draft."
So yeah it's more that he's evaluated as the prospect with the 24th most prosperous future. I don't think he's interesting for the Jazz with Gobert and Favors on board.

great post and thanks for sharing.

couple things I see in nick.

- great 3 point shooter but is he a 2 or a 3. if he is a 2 he has great size but is not a major need for the jazz with Hayward and burks both playing well. he will also severely struggle guard the 2 in the nba. if he is a 3 he no longer has great size he would be below average. I think he will be ok guarding 3s. this is a major need though for the jazz the 3.

- I wonder how nick would do if gr3 was doing well and pulling some of the attention away from him.

- I think he is a better defender the korver and can attack the basket better. I think mike miller is a better comparison.

- attitude is not as much a concern because I think they has a calming influence outon the floor. that will help keep nick in check some not to mention he would be no where near the alpha male on this team. one positive would be if his fire would help favors.

He's a 2 and I was thinking if we traded Alec or didn't sign Hayward, either Nik or Gary could be a possibility to help fill the spot at SG. Not saying they are my top choices at all, just making observations. I just pulled up Draftexpress today and Nik has moved up to #16. That surprised me. I don't see him that high at all, but then I haven't really been following college ball this season besides Michigan/Utah games.

GRIII has so much talent, but can really disappear out there. He's been a disappointment, especially because I thought he would step up his game with McGary gone. Maybe he's playing too much PF when he should be SF - like last year. If he goes pro this year, I think he would be a steal with a high 20 something pick.

Yes sir. Get on the train now while there is still room. I'm driving...

A late first round pick can be someone you develop. If he really is the best prospect draft him and prepare to trade someone else.

Yeah but if you trade Favors, neither Gobert nor Capela project to be NBA starter. So you have redundant length and low skill backup Center. Both battle for playing time and get less as a result and neither is a good trade chip because they're underdeveloped. Wouldn't make sense to me with a team that lacks 1 major piece to move forward and add from there.

He is would be a stash pick, much like the Bulls have done with Mirotic. He was the 23 pick in 2011 but the Bulls could flip him for a top 8 pick in this years draft. Or if Kanter or Favors got traded, he would be insurance. Obviously there is some risk as some players are perfectly comfortable playing for the big name euro teams (Tomic).

Yeah I don't think Capela is even close to Mirotic. But we may witness that next year. I think like many french players with African roots he'll come over right away as the FIBA rules highlight their strengths less in many cases.

Smart with a typical Jekyll and Hyde type game again tonight. He's just too volatile and inconsistent to spend too high of a pick on. I think you probably have to take him in that 6-10 range and just hope, like MCW, that the NBA game will fit him better than the college game.

not agreeing.. MCW had specific reasons his game may better translate whereas Smart has more reasons his will not. Not to say I disagree with where you suggest he's taken, I do.

What are you thinking of specifically? Too much of a combo guard?

Just saying that MCW's size/length gave him more upside to be better in the NBA than a med sizer combo does. The latter is more likely to dominate college.
