Following potential 2014 draftees

Would be awesome if Vonleh shows: a) the ability to rotate defensively on the perimeter and guard forwards in a crouch, b) the ability to shoot off the bounce, c) the ability to run out and fill the lane.

FWIW PG_AB has been literally talking about Vonleh since he was in high-school. I've kinda followed him, and I'm like 80% sure he'll be the classic big that everyone says "how did he slip that far" in a couple years.

I like Vonleh. Not an explosive athlete, but moves extremely well for his size. As for playing the 3, I don't think so. I like his ability to defend some of the bigger threes in the league, but like Hantlers said, he'd be a bigger mismatch at the 4.

As an athlete, he reminds me of Marvin Williams.

He looked great on the perimeter in HS. He just grew like 2 inches and put on 15 or 20 lbs in the past year.

A 6'11 Marv? Not bad.

EDIT: Nvm just realized he's around 6'10.

I think Vonleh is going to surprise people in workouts and be a solid candidate at #5. He's longer, has better shooting touch and probably defends better than Randle. He'll look pretty good if those guys work out head to head.

He'll be better than Marvin Williams, imo. He'll be a better scorer in the paint, a better rim protector and should be a better
rebounder.

Edit: Noticed the LazyD was comparing Vonleh to Marvin Williams as an athlete.

The sell on Vonleh is hes the only PF who figures to be big enough to guard BIG PF's like Dirk, LMA, Love, Davis, Duncan, Bosh and Monroe

hes already stronger than many of those guys at 18 years old and figures to have the strength to really bang with any PF's projecting forward, hes really built well for a big, with short legs, a low center of gravity and a strong backside. Noah fits alot of the classic things you look for like finishing with both hands, including hook shots, huge hands and a soft touch around the basket, hes very active and runs like a deer, very mobile

last season in the NBA there were only 4 qualified PF's who shot over 80% from the line, i think thats attainable for Noah in his first few years

Noah's legitimately a great kid, very motivated and a major workaholic, he finished 43% of his bachelors degree. top notch work ethic and its payed major dividends in the past few years, theres plenty of reason to believe hes just scratching the surface

48.5% from 3 isnt a fluke, its not the best gauge for how good of a shooter he is but its certainly enough to be optimistic

Really good post.

I like you Catch, but Harrison Barnes as a comparison to Vonleh and Brewer to Gordon? Huh? Vonleh is in no way a 3. None.

I think you look at Vonleh's ceiling as Aldridge.

I know it's high school, and all these guys look good in high school, but this shows how comfortable he was on the perimeter.

I'm biased because I know the Jazz need an SF. I do see some Harrison Barnes and Rashard Lewis in his game, especially if you look at his HS stuff. By referring to Ronnie Brewer, I mean Gordon is a guy whom defenders will back off of, and who will score off of cuts. Gordon's obviously the better defender.

Do you like his face, btw?

Nickkk, how does Vonleh score on the #Hungry scale?

Of the players in question I would rank them:

1. Randle
2. Gordon
3. Vonleh

Rebounding stats tells me Vonleh is a hustler and a hard worker, but Randle & Gordon both seems to have that extra gear that they shift into late game or what have you, that seems to push their teams over the top. Vonleh does have that quiet unassuming demeanour, but I do question whether he wants it bad enough like Randle/Gordon does.
