Following potential 2014 draftees

Easily one of the top 5 players. Nickk is a hater. Anyone who really watched enough of his games would know that if anyone will work his *** off on his weaknesses it will be smart. He is a warrior. One of the top 3 motors in this draft. He has all the intangibles to be great.

We are a small bandwagon.

I'd be ecstatic with Smart at 5 or 6.

I think people want to see either an elite athlete or an elite shooter when looking at a guard prospect. Smart isn't either of those, so people overlook what he does bring to the table.

And while Smart may not be an elite athlete, he is a good one.

I would be happy with Smart.

He has unique physical gifts, a big time motor, competitive fire, fills up the stat sheet, one of the best defenders in the draft...

When his jumper is falling, he's prolific. He'll be an All-Star if he ever fixes that. If he doesn't, he'll still be very good.

I don't think you can play Smart ahead of Burks the way Burks is developing, or Hayward at the SG. If you draft Smart, I think you make him your starting PG and let him use his size and strength to put pressure on the opposing defense. You're basically then willing to trade Burke, possibly for another mid-late lottery pick (e.g., McDermott, Saric, Nurkic).

I'd plug him in as our 6th man. He can come in for Burks or Burke.

He has elite size/standing reach. He is mobile for his size. He seems to have the instincts. He needs to gain weight and get some experience but I can see him being there. Or not. He has a good chance, though.

Also he needs to get a go to move if he wants to stay on the floor.
100% agreed on this. There is no need to be able to fly like crazy to be an elite defender. Elite size/length, mobility, instincts, basketball IQ/defensive awareness, fundamentals and hard work are the most important things to be an elite defender. It's up to Gobert to complete his God given talents with the remaining necessities.

before he got hurt in the 2013 NIJT Belgrade Inglis was averaging 23.7ppg, 10.7rpg, 9.0apg and 1.8bpg, in the first 3 games of the tournament

I wish there was more footage of Inglis playing D but im sure the Jazz are familiar with him. He's been on the map for a bit for an 18 y/o. he did get plenty of rebounds, blocks and steals on his U16 and U17 teams, and certainly has the tools to get the job done

if he were to kill it in workouts/the combine i could easily see him in the 1st round, he seems underrated to me tbh

Does he speak Inglis ?

I think Smart is a great athlete. For a guy 6'4" 220 lbs, he can do a lot. He plays fast and his motor never stops.

I like Smart. I just like Wiggins, Embiid, Parker, Exum, Vonleh and probably Randle more. I think Randle is starting to get underrated at this point. No way should he slip out of the top 6, imo.

Definitely. I don't know if 220 will be his eventual playing weight, but that is 15 lbs heavier than even the big point guards like Westbrook, Dwill, and Rose. He would be a bowling ball down the lane. There's really no comparison you can draw up for Smart, he is a unique player.

Well, physically you can point to Stuckey and Baron Davis, but it's hard to come up with a direct comp.

Probably why many are so sour on him.

I've done enough "loving" around these parts for far too long, it's time I "hate" something for a change.

D-Rose btw is 6'1.5" w/o shoes. Classic plateau shoe cheater in college ;) (DX records a 6'3.5" in shoes from 2007, 1 year before his draft measurement) -> But he has a great 6'8" wingspan for his size.

Direct comp: Mix of Tyreke Evans and Defense.

I would be disappointed. If that is the hand we are dealt I'll root for him but I am really hoping for Embiid, Wiggins, or Parker. I would definitely take Gordon over him, probably Randle and from what people say Exum. Smart with the 7th pick over Vonleh would be meh ok.

I like Smart I am just not in love with him. If he were a Jazzman then I would cheer for him like any other player. However, I see a bigger need at the SF position so I am a Wiggins guys. I am not ready to give up on Burke like a lot of Jazz fans (many who were going crazy over the pick).

In no way am i getting excited for Smart, and i have him 6th on my board. At this point I strictly view him as a consolation prize, if we have **** luck at the lottery then i can be sold on him, but still im going to worry about adding someone who shot .279 from 3 last year in conference play (.290 and .299 overall in his fresh/soph seasons) onto a team of guards with low 3pt%'s

Shooting percentages are not too important for draft prospects. That can be enhanced in time. What you need to seek out is more of the fundemantals, maybe elite athleticism -the things that cannot be taught- and learning capability -height of his ceiling. I know these sound like empty words but they really are important to consider when choosing.
