Following potential 2015 draftees

I think Hood. Because then it paves the way for Johnson to start next to Hayward next year.

Plus isn't the 2017 draft supposed to be loaded?
I'd trade the picks. Protect the Jazz 2017 pick, but keep Hood. If the rookie beats out Burks and Hood, they can always swing Hood to backup Johnson/Hayward at SF and Alec can still wreck havoc off the bench behind whoever the starting SG is.

Towns with an impressive line today of

21 points (8-12 FG; 5-6 FT)
11 rebounds
3 blocks

Booker with a not so nice stat line of

2 points (1-6 FG; 0-2 3PT)

That team from the Hamptons didn't have any size. Towns could turn and get a lay-up whenever he wanted more or less.

For all the Oubre's fan out there... here's his back story.

Bullet point summary:

- Self has nothing but praise for him (!!!! Enough said !!!)

- Oubre has "SACRIFICE" tattooed on his stomach (Tim Duncan would approve)

- Picutre of a Jazz player & a pelican on his right arm (was obv. born to join the Jazz)

- "FEAR" and "God" on left and right arm (respect)

Conclusion: GREAT character guy and should fit right in with our high character CORE (no joke)

I like some of the things Oubre brings as a prospect. His length would really help us defensively on the perimeter. Not a bad shooter either.

The other guy i like is Looney because he could be that corner 3 four man all the Kaminsky lovers seem to want, but hes a little more versatile. Plug him in at spot time at the three or four positions. Unfortunately no more Jack Cooley but im willing to sacrifice.

Curious to see where people currently stand with Hezonja. Obviously, it is difficult as fans with limited resources regarding the evaluation of intl players, but he seems to be exactly what we need (offensively) alongside our core 4 (3pt range, alpha mentality, ability to create his own shot). How our FO evaluates his character & defensive potential will likely be the determining factor, but considering how the consensus draft board seems to be shaping up, he appears to be the ideal target out of the realistic options within our projected range.

Towns, Okafor, Russell, & Mudiay appear to be locks for the top 5, with S.Johnson & WCS battling for that 5th spot. I expect all 6 to go before Mario, with the possibility of a few others going ahead of him as well with strong tourneys/combines. He should still be available at least in that 7/8 range, maybe even lower. Is it possible that he falls to us around #12? If not, what would people be willing to give up to move up the 3 or 4 spots necessary to grab him?

Personally, I would trade our pick along with another asset (such as Burke or the OKC pick) for him. Would this be enough to move from say #12 to #8? Or would you just stand pat & take bpa out of whoever is available (Winslow/Oubre/Booker/Porzingis/Looney/Turner/Kaminsky/etc)?

The draft is deep enough to get a solid prospect with the 12th pick, but Hezonja looks like the best offensive prospect in our range. Is it worth giving up the extra asset to get him or do you stay put & hope he falls into our lap (or instead target a defensive minded wing/backup big man) due to Rodney Hood's recent progression & long-term offensive promise? Does Hood make Hezonja redundant or would Hezonja instead make Hood expendable? Or do you keep both, with one starting & the other providing offense off the bench? With Hood playing well & Burks coming back, I could see the FO hanging onto the extra asset & going after a backup big instead, depending on the Tomic situation.

Also, one of the advantages to drafting Hezonja could be the possibility of allowing him to continue developing overseas for a year or two. As much as I think this team can compete for a playoff spot next year & acquire a player who can contribute to that in this year's draft, stashing Hezonja would allow us to see how Hood progresses with another year of development & what Burks looks like coming off his injury. Plenty of options, my guess is the FO allows how the draft unfolds to dictate the direction in which they go.

I'd honestly be happy with any of Russell, Johnson, Porzingis, Hezonja, WCS or Oubre (I've finally come around on him.)

First goal is to get an Alpha Scorer - without sacrificing defense (Russell, maybe Johnson, Porzingis and Hezonja) and the 2nd goal is to get another player with elite defensive potential (Johnson, WCS and Oubre).

Scout all of them, set your board and then aggressively try to move to get your target player. The Jazz have roster spots and assets to utilize.

If it could land us someone like Hezonja/Johnson, would you guys rather package our pick with a.) Hood or b.) both the GS/OKC picks?

assuming Johnson is the target I would give up draft picks.

I am not a huge hood fan I worry about his durability and consistency but I like him backing up Johnson.

I would rather target hezonja first.

Yes, drafting a guy based on his tats is definitely the way to go. What if a guy has not tats. How do we judge his character then?

You could replace Hamptons with nearly every SEC team and it would be true nearly ever game he has played this year. Dude might eventually be good, but he is going to suck *** next year in the NBA. Not at all NBA ready IMO.

Ouch with Booker. Cant really judge a guy by a game against craphole U like Johnson with AZ as well.
Booker may need to stay in school, if for no other reason than to get more opportunity to show he can lead a college team before trying his hand at the NBA. Even Calipari said he looked like a scared little girl (not in those exact words)out there last night.

I'm starting to believe in Karl-Anthony Towns as the #1 pick in the draft. I this draft is loaded at the top. Anywhere in the Top 3 you're getting a stud.

Question to the group: would you include Dante in a package to move to #1-3 to draft D'Angelo? I am squarely on the fence - not sure there's a right/wrong answer. I love Dante and think he will be very, very good. But D'Angelo seems to have "it." Franchise player, superstar-type potential.

I would package Exum in a deal to get Russell, tbh. He is the guy that we need, someone who can go out and get buckets every game, someone we can rely on to score. Exum isn't that guy, atleast for now.

I would agree. My conflicting thought is that we seem to be building a "system" that Exum looks to fit in well with. I think his offense will make big strides with improved strength and confidence, and his length/quickness makes him so good defensively. I think he could be a terror on D.

Let's just win the lotto so we don't have to choose between the two.

This question came up earlier in the thread... I was for it at that time, but have since reconsidered. I think a big part of our amazing defense is Exum. He doesn't get a ton of steals but his positional defense is elite. I haven't watched any Jazz player that I can remember that just stays in front of everyone. He has figured out how to use his quickness on defense... if he figures it out on offense its over. Who knows if he will? He needs time.

I think we would also have to add significant assets to Exum to get D' Angelo. It would likely cost us Exum, #12 2015 pick, unprotected 2016 pick, and the GSW pick. Even then certain teams wouldn't do it... some might. We would have to pay a premium and I'm not sure we should.

I just think the Jazz lack someone who can just flat out score and be relied on every night.

Gordon is good enough with the defense that we have. Another year of development of the young guys and change some of the D League guys for better players and we should be fine on offense. Gordon can get a shot when we need one.

Here are your upset specials for probably undrafted rookie free agents. Last night I was driving home after work on Sports Talk Radio they had the College of Idaho hoops coach on talking about the season that just concluded. This is an NAIA school that did win 30 games. The coach was an assistant at UCLA under Howland and he talks that he has four guys he thinks could play in the NBA. The four are: Marko Kovacevic 6'11" 225 from Coatia who played for Krysko at Utah. He was compared to Kevin Love by this guy and he was at UCLA when Love was there. Joe Vaz 7'1" 265 who a couple of years ago led California JCs in rebounding and blocked shots and shot .775 from the foul line, a point guard Josh Wilson was an NAIA all american as a PG and Demetrius Perkins a 2-3 who was second team All American NAIA. Wilson and Perksin are from So. Cal and the juco ranks there. I wouldn't waste a draft pick on these guys but they might be summer league fodder. This is even more bottom trolling than your DLeague prospect of the week.
