Following potential 2015 draftees

honestly I think to move up we could swap picks and hood.

I think that only gets us up 3 - 4 spots, and that's assuming Hood keeps playing well. We might be able to take a bad contract too though, not sure.

Keep an eye on Tomic. It's possible we're bringing him over to trade him. A team that has holes all over the place like the Knicks or Lakers could use him. That said, I don't see the Knicks or Lakers trading their pick in this draft.

Jazz can offer: Burke, Hood, Tomic, Pleiss, Booker, 2nd rounders, etc. to go with their first this year. Maybe some of that gets us from 10 to 5.

MAYBE if we're talking #6 from #9, but not from #12.
Last year, Orlando moved up to #10 by trading their 12th pick, a 2015 second-rounder and a future first to Philadelphia.

Chicago got the #11 pick and Anthony Randolph in exchange for the #16, #19 and a future 2nd round pick. PERHAPS Utah makes the argument Hood is much more valuable than last year's draft position. However, the unknown - and promise of finding the "steal" of the draft - often makes a pick more valuable than a known commodity who is nice, but not great.

In the first case. it's hard to know who won that trade. Orlando picked Payton, but Saric didn't come over for Philly. In the second trade, Chicago got McDermott and Denver picked Nurkic and Harris. It's usually pretty expensive to move up and doesn't always get you a good return.

The only certainty is that Denver will not be picking up the phone if we call. . .

That's true too. Denver or Sacramento, or anyone for that matter, might not want to help us. We might be able to deal with Brooklyn or Miami if they get above us in the draft order though, as those teams might not care about our rise in the ranks.

Brooklyn's pick will be swapped with Atlanta's so... yah... Atlanta will be picking in the lottery. They have the chance to be champions AND get the first pick in the draft.

Also, Miami's pick goes to PHI if it isn't top 10.

So....now that the Jazz have dropped to 11th, that leaves us looking at:

Towns-gone
Okafor-gone
Russell-gone
Mudiay-gone
Hezonja-gone
WCS-gone
Porzi-gone
Johnson-gone
Oubre-probably gone
Turner-probably gone

Winslow, Booker, Looney, Kaminsky and Portis

I might go with Looney or Portis at that point. Chad Ford thinks Looney will be gone and we'll take Winslow.

I doubt Portis goes in lottery. He rose quietly but he still doesn't have the upside of a lottery pick. I like him though. Good passer, shooter, defensive game. Could be a perfect fit for Hawks.

Well, we could always replace Joe Ingles with Devin Booker. It's really not a bad fall-back position. I look at the impact that Jason Terry had with the Mavs championship team, and I start feeling more comfortable with it.

I think Porzingis will drop several spots. Winslow and Booker may not be there when the Jazz pick, as they'll probably be workout wonders.

Well I'm on the Oubre wagon at the moment, so I'd be happy with that. I think Oubre is going to wow people in workouts too though.

Watching Oubre highlights, I think his style of game compares well to Tayshaun Prince. More perimeter oriented, looong. A lot to like in Oubre, just wish he was more consistent. Would be happy with the pick.

I think he has the most potential with the players around our pick.

Booker will be good. I like that our team defines roles for guys. We run a real offensive system and whoever we pick, I am confident will be able to fulfill their role well.

And media has made so much of his 3pt shooting that the rest of his game is largely undiscovered. He is fantastic in transition, a great passer (though hasn't had the ball in his hands enough for the box score to show it), and gets into the lane pretty well. And excellent from the line.

I want towns, though.

It's good to have a real Kentucky fan on the board. The more I hear about Booker, the more I like. Hopefully hes there where we pick. Shooting is a premium these days.
