Following potential 2015 draftees

WCS is low risk and in greater demand than a PG, even a really talented one. Plus, I'm buying into PKM's intel.

I think we're looking at Winslow and Booker. It's possible that one of Porzingis or Turner falls to us.

Given those options, I could see the Jazz move the pick one way or another.

I have spent the last few days with the team and I am certain the Jazz are not making any meaningful inquiries into Booker. I may be reaching, but that sure sounds like a trade of the pick.

WCS is low risk, but he is also low reward.

How we going to develop him with Gobert/Favors getting a bulk of the minutes? He isn't a good fit playing alongside Gobert, so a 3-man rotation isn't really possible. It would be a bad pick taking him over Russell, for us at least.

I don't get the feeling the Jazz would take Burks off the floor for Winslow. They need the scoring. They might believe in Hood too.

I could see them making a play to get into the top 7 if that's in reach.

Looney is not nearly as athletic and skilled as Odom.

Yeah, the Odom projection is so far off. I mean, could Looney develop that, sure. He seems like he has a natural IQ and some natural skills, but those ball-skills are really far away. I think he is more athletic than we are giving him credit for. Hard to look athletic when you can't handle the ball at all, and I think UCLA plays pretty slow, no?

I don't think the wings are set in their draft order. Johnson, Winslow, Hezonja, and Oubre all seem pretty fluid to me in their draft stock. NCAA Tourney performances could have a big impact.

Regarding Russell, team fit comes into play.

Philly is reported to like Mudiay.
Minnesota has Rubio and wants a big to team with Wiggins.
Orlando has Payton and Oladipo in the backcourt and might want to see how that pans out.

Sacramento would absolutely love Russell and might try to move up for him.
Denver could be into Russell.

But now you're actually in the 5 -7 range.

I did a mock draft, not a big board for the Jazz. WCS will come in and have a defensive impact like Joakim Noah for some team. There's some potential offense there too. Rim protection is a big deal.

I will be surprised if anyone takes WCS over Russell.

...So I wasn't expecting the Jazz to blow out the Rockets. I guess I'm a bit slow. The Jazz are now fully starting to win ****. They've convincingly won their last game with every WC Playoff team except the Clippers and maybe the Mavs? If the Jazz believe in Burks and Hood on the wing, maybe drafting a wing this year isn't really a priority.

What the Jazz really need is a versatile guard to replace Burke (e.g., Jerian Grant) or another impact forward to back Favors and help the Jazz go to a smaller, more spread line-up. The latter guy could be Porzingis, Portis, or interestingly maybe even Stanley Johnson.

I'm wondering about Johnson as a combo-forward, not that we're in a position to draft him. Johnson has the size and skillset to play a role like Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes for the Warriors.

This game with Washington is probably the best he's looked all year.

Watching this game, and seeing Burke I think he's gotta go. Our team's identify is defense, and everyone on the team right now is above average EXCEPT Burke. When Burks come back, he'll probably be our 6th man off the bench and doing the scoring with Hood starting? Therefore we won't need Burke's scoring off the bench next year.

So I think we need to think hard about getting another PG who is able to defend and hit 3's ala Exum. We cannot have defensive lapse like we had this game when Burke comes in and opposing players' eyes lit up as they attack him.

We also need a solid 3/4th big, when Favors/Gobert were in foul trouble today Evans had to step in and I don't think he's that guy for us if we're trying for playoffs next year.

I've been critical of Johnson's quickness and mobility compared to NBA wings, and I think Oubre is more prototypical there, but compared to combo forwards and stretch-4s Johnson could be fantastic.

I think we're trying to make a similar point. Replacing Burke, Ingles and Evans in the current line-up would be the way to improve the most.

Replacing Burke this early would be short-sighted. Let's see how he improves next year. He will have less pressure on him with the return of Burks taking pressure off him. The 2nd unit Burke plays with is very offensively limited now that Hood is a starter.

Offensively he is growing which is good to see, my worry is defensively. I don't know if he'll ever get to where we need him to be. He needs to be REALLY REALLY good offensively almost to make up for his defensive deficiency. He just lacks that length and quickness.
