Following potential 2015 draftees

yah, Lillard had almost 40 inch vertical, I doubt Harvey is anywhere near that. That's the fastest u-turn I've done on a prospect. I was so excited by looking at a couple of highlight vids and a statline... but the section with the defense on the cbs article is quite damning and brought me back to earth - if he doesn't improve considerably, he won't be able to get any playing time to show off his offensive game because of his defense being such a huge liability.

I mean, I'm not saying he isn't worth drafting in a 2nd round, but to say he would be a steal or is a 1st round talent (as Croc D. would suggest) is false.

Portis and Looney intrigue me, so does Oubre. Skeptical of anyone associated with Kentucky but Id like to know more about lyles.

Can see the jazz trading the pick if tyus Jones is still on the board, but I saw a mock this morning (Sheridan hoops?) that had jazz taking tyus jones at 12 and trading Trey.

So we trade Trey Burke to draft another Trey Burke?

No thanks.

Sam Vecenie just posted his newest mock draft and he projects us taking Looney with the 12 pick(With Booker, Turner, Kaminsky still on the board) Cedi Osman with the 42 and Marc Garcia with the 54:

Here's what he says as an explanation for his pick:

12. Utah Jazz: Kevon Looney, PF, UCLA: The Jazz are a decent candidate to trade this pick, in my opinion, for more immediate help. However, Looney could be an interesting option to pair with the rest of the Utah frontcourt. His length and defensive versatility could continue to help the Jazz build a terrifying defense. Also, his potential for shooting ability as well as offensive creation should be something that coach Quin Snyder appreciates. I don't think he's a potential star due to limited explosive athleticism, but he could be one heck of a two-way role player due to his skill and motor.

Here's his explanations for the second round picks:

Cedi Osman, PG, Macedonia: Osman could develop in Europe for a couple of years as a playmaker that the Jazz could use down the road.

Marc Garcia, SG, Spain: Garcia has a shot to become a useful player in time, but at only 19 he might not stay in the draft.

Notice the projection of Portis at #11. First time I've seen him projected that high. I agree that Looney positionally is a good fit for the Jazz. I just hope he can develop physically. I'm not happy if both Portis and Oubre are taken by 11.

Building on what Chad Ford said in his chat this week, I'm thinking that Turner's placement near our draft position is a placeholder until his medical comes out in the combine. If the medical looks good, he rises. If it doesn't, he falls. Either way, he's unlikely to stay in our range.

I'm hoping for either Oubre or Looney. I think they have the most potential and best combination of defense/shooting. If they're both gone, then I'd look at Portis and Kaminsky.

Here's his explanations for the second round picks:

I would not mind taking a flyer on those two guys in the second. Garcia was a real hot name coming into this season, but has struggled though. Osman is intriguing as well. Would not expect to see either one for at least 2-3 years though.
With those 4 on the board in the first I say go with Mr. Badger.

Has anyone seen Richaun Holmes play? There's a nice write-up on Draftexpress https://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Richaun-Holmes-65912/

Intriguing prospect in the 2nd round. Long and athletic. Blocks shots, rebounds, can shoot the college 3 (41%). Played at Bowling Green.

I'm sure no one has seen him play live, but he looked good on DX. Seems like the prototypical mid-major 2nd round kind of guy who goes unnoticed, but has all the physical and athletic tools to be a NBA player.

NBA.com has Oubre at #12

https://www.nba.com/2015/news/features/04/29/top-30-draft-board-version-4-towns-still-tops-the-chart/index.html

Oubre has the look of an NBA wing -- the height (though needing to fill out and get stronger), the athleticism, the ability to play in transition and above the rim. His shooting dropped off the second half of the season, all the way to becoming a non-factor in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. He needed a good postseason and didn't get one.

That would be a good outcome. I'm a broken record, but the defensive length and quickness between Oubre and Exum can be stifling.

But can't you say the same thing about Looney if you decide to play him at the 3? Plus Looney has better length and seems to shoot it better from 3 as well.

Chad Ford's new big board updated 29th April also has Oubre at #12.

Scouts have a love-hate relationship with Oubre. On upside (thanks to crazy length and a diverse skill set) he has as much as, or more than, Winslow or Hezonja. But he's also the rawest of the prospects. His defense improved dramatically as a freshman, but his shot selection and assertiveness -- along with his ballhandling abilities -- are still in question. Over the next two months he'll get matched up a lot with Winslow and Johnson in workouts. That might be a tough one for him given his relative lack of strength compared to the other two. He's going to have to show toughness and hit a lot of shots in workouts to move past either of them -- especially Winslow.

Yep. Not sure when we'd actually get to see that duo in the back court though, cause we're pretty stacked on the wings right now with Burks coming back and the emergence of Hood. Not that I would let that stop me from drafting him.
