Following potential 2015 draftees

More and more hyped on Stanley Johnson. He'd give the jazz a dynamic they don't currently have (a small-ball 4 who can get out on the break and handle) AND fix some long-standing problems (a big physical wing who can defend when Hayward should be spared for the offensive side). High ceiling. High floor.

I love that he played down low in high school, where he developed the beginning of a post game, and then played on the wing at Arizona, where he nailed the fundamentals of good perimeter D.

GET HIM

He's the best long term fit and he'd also have a good immediate role that isn't too big for him. If we got him we'd need to look for a back up center and then maybe address the PG situation and we are good.

We need to trade up to 9 and make sure this happens.

I'd love Johnson but I'm starting to really doubt he'll be there. If both Booker and Johnson are available I'd go Johnson but I wouldn't feel bad at all about Booker.

If Booker goes 9 and Miami opts for Oubre that's about the only situation I could see Johnson falling to us. I don't think there is really the possibility that both are available. I wonder if the 12 and the GSW pick is enough to get us to 9. I think we will have to trade up to get him, but if they take Johnson they could wait for us to take Booker ( if that is their guy) and then we could make a deal.

Disagreed. Some reliable birdies have told me what a disaster he was inside Arizona's locker room and that the staff couldn't wait for him to leave... Can't have that type of crap muddying up our chemistry.

How did you even hear about him... He's never played in the D League.

I do remember his coach saying he had to do stuff to keep him engaged... Like making practices competitive. I was a dick when I was 18... Can't imagine how big of a dick I'd have been if I was a mcdonalds all American and about to get paid. Some of this stuff is likely overblown... Most of these guys are dicks but you hope they grow up.

No idea where to put this tidbit, but Locke always refers to Mario Hezonja as Hezinga... I do not want him based on this alone... He's the new Stoiyaskus.

So what does that tell you about all the other McDonalds All Americans, which are as well 18 years old and somehow dont have to get engaged all the time?

On a side note, I wonder if a decent comp for Hezonja might be JR Smith but with less crazy (and less tats). Both have a good jumpshot, both are athletic and both have a bit of an attitude.

Just a thought.

If that's the problem, I'd rather draft Hezonja and get rid of Locke. Or we can just teach locke to call him super Mario. BTW, I wonder if Locke is a fan of Big bang theory, and he has bazinga on the brain when he's thinking of Hezonja.

Its a cross between Porzingis and Hezonja... it kills me every time.

We haven't talked about Oubre in awhile. Did something happen that I missed?

It's a slow news day and I found this article, I thought it was interesting.

Asked what mindset Oubre needs to embrace to become more consistent, Self referenced a conversation he had the previous day with former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, now scouting for the organization. In his playing days as a shooting guard for tough Chicago Bulls teams, Sloan was a rugged defender and a good shooter. He earned NBA first-team all-defense honors four times.

"To me," Self said, "with guys who are kind of stat-stuffer-type guys, be worried about making plays that give your team the best chance to have good possessions. You know, defensive energy, scouting report, things like that. And when you worry about the right thing, I think you make shots."

Self shared that Sloan told him that too many players have their minds twisted in the wrong direction, stuck in the wrong place.

Sloan, Self said, was, "saying that kids want to shoot good and then they’ll play good, but kids should want to play good and then it’s easier to make shots because they’re not focused on making shots."

Sloan speaks from experience not just as a player, but as the coach of Hall-of-Fame talents Karl Malone and John Stockton.

"I think that’s the one thing with Kelly that I want to see consistency with because he’s a good shooter, but that’s not who he is," Self said. "He’s a junkyard dog. He can do a lot of things, and when he’s worried about those things it just seems so much more natural for him to jump up and make shots."

Oubre is 6'7 with a 7'2 wingspan, he shot 36% from three this year on 95 attempts. He is a good defender as well, could be a great 3 and D guy for the Jazz.

Hearing more and more about Stanley Johnson from Arizona. WHat are the chances that he is still on the board at 12?

Pros/cons? (No, I am not reading 711 pages to find out)
