Yes, but we shouldn't replace him with a rook.
I just really like what Payne does.

be honest maybe 30/70 that he is not

This seems right... I do think someone will fall. It happens almost every draft that a guy goes 3-5 spots lower than consensus. Teams lock into a position or player and ignore what is going on during the draft. Saric fell a bit last year... Noel the year before... Dat guy Kwahi... Granger. Exum even slid a spot further than expected. Drummond and Monroe both slid further than consensus. It is almost every year.
If Charlotte selects Booker, Miami takes Kaminsky or Oubre, and Indiana locks into a point guard (they worked out Payne and Grant... or will was the rumor) then we are looking at selecting one of Johnson, Porzingis, or worst case Kaminsky/Turner. Ideally we could move up to 9 or 10 but may not have to... GMs do dumb things on draft night.
Thanks guys. Thoughts on how Johnson fits with the Jazz?
Perfectly. Seriously he is big enough to play stretch 4 in spots for us. He could be the 4th wing as well. He is a two way player. His shot is good, but I don't think he's a knock down shooter like Booker or Hezonja. He's not an explosive athlete, but is strong and thick.
High end upside... Ron Artest without the crazy and maybe a little less gifted on D (Ron was pretty amazing on D)
Low end floor... a rich man's Jae Crowder
He would fill an appropriate role for a rookie and have room to grow. Would give us positional flexibility and allow us to continue switching all PnR. There has to be a deal we can make for him with Charlotte. He's not a great fit for them. If he is still on the board I'd go as high as the 12 and next year's pick top 10 protected.

Hearing more and more about Stanley Johnson from Arizona. WHat are the chances that he is still on the board at 12?
Pros/cons? (No, I am not reading 711 pages to find out)
Johnson is a defensive beast - that's well-documented. He's one of those guys who will play until he's 40. I feel like there's a 15%-20% chance he'll be there at 12. I feel like Johnson will never be a star - just a really solid complimentary piece - he'll be better overall than Bruce Bowen - I don't think he'll be as good as Leonard but the common Artest/World Peace comparison seems more accurate.
A lot of people think Johnson is not going past 10. Miami is not taking a SG/PG/C, they also have a situation with Luol Deng at SF where he might not pick his option and leave. We might need to trade to 9 in order to get Johnson.
#12+OKC2018 for #9? Would you do it?

Based on the fact that I have heard Dennis Lindsey talk about just wait until Dante is 22 in two separate interviews, I think the Jazz are targeting being contenders in 3 years. So giving up future draft picks probably doesn't make sense yet. This year is about finding out about the Favors-Gobert combo, can Alec Burks be a starter on a contender, is Trey a winning NBA player and Is Dante going to do what we all expect. If we get the big pieces in order then we can use our draft picks to fill in the gaps.

But you can only have so many players, and only play a percentage of those players real minutes. The Jazz are flush with mid/low-level tradable assets. AND, the team needs time to develop and gel together. Contenders aren't looking to their late 1st round pick to just step in and be a significant piece. The Jazz need to make some very smart moves this offseason because it more than most will shape the ceiling of this team.Based on the fact that I have heard Dennis Lindsey talk about just wait until Dante is 22 in two separate interviews, I think the Jazz are targeting being contenders in 3 years.
