one love sometimes it is best to just retreat and fight another day. I am with cy and hantlers on this. booker is closer to Thompson than redick.
JJ had a pre-draft DUI arrest.
Klay had pre-draft marijuana arrest.
Devin Booker has not been arrested.
Roy was/is so much better at creating his own shot compared to Booker. Booker would primarily be a spot up shooter until/if he progresses like Klay has.
A lot will when they realize they have a strength mismatch on their hands.
Most of the 4s I've seen when playing against Novak... when they have a mismatch, every competent 4 will bully him. Porzingis is getting bullied in Spain regularly, I don't see a reason why it won't be happening in the NBA as well...
Not gonna name them all but just a few off the top of my head without looking anything up who can play bully ball would be.
David west, zack randolph, blake griffin, lamarcus aldridge, derrick favors, anthony davis, paul millsap, serge ibaka, julius randle, kevin love, greg monroe, nene, faried, pau
Now not all of those guys play bully ball alot but every one of them COULD push porzingas around down low if they choose to
Another note with Brandon Roy is that he was a 4-year college player, so Roy was more physically mature than Booker, and Booker is ahead of where Roy was as a freshman or even as a sophomore in terms of shooting the ball, especially from deep. Roy might have been more athletic, but it will be interesting to see how Booker does in the Combine.
A lot of ppl wanted to exploit their mismatch against Steve Novak, but many backup players failed simply because they tried to force the issue too hard.
Aldridge isn't playing bully ball. His advantage wouldn't come from strength, but finesse vs youth/inexperience.
Favors is hella soft. Most his action is 1v0.
There was just an article how bad Ibaka is offensively at everything that's not an open Catch and Shoot and slashing in the lane/crashing boards.
Randle is like a 6'7 overweight bully. Length matters.
Faried is a hard cutter, no bully.
Pau works finesse and length.
I can see reasons to fall short against others because of strength early on. But he has got excellent mobility and length. That counts.
Roy was a killer playmaker and iso player. I haven't seen these attributes come up in connection with Booker.
Let me let you guys in on something.
One of the traits that scouts love about Booker is he has elite vision in reading a defense... like a great PG. Watch his vids and notice how he slides on the perimeter to a spot exactly between the defenders. He knows how to get open. He moves exceptionally well without the ball.
I also disagree he cannot create his own shot. He 100% can, but our offense isn't asking him to do that.
More than anything, though, watch for the reading of the defense/IQ.. it's pretty awesome.
I liked your post because I think it's fair. But if you break down Devin's shots as catch and shoot, early in the shot clock, and late.. he is very good earlier in the shot clock creating his shot. His poor late in the clock shot creation is due to his teammates getting it to him with >5sec left and the D knowing he can shoot it.I've seen Booker try to create space late in the shot clock and he seems to really struggle doing so. If he can't get by college guys, he's gonna have a hard time getting by pro players. You say he can create his own shot, but his tape shows that he can't yet. I'm sure you know some guys, but for now, I'm going by the tape.

I guess I should remind everyone that booker will be the youngest player in the draft. not turning 19 until like October or something.
I understand getting it late in the shot clock is very difficult, but with as tight as defenders play him on the perimeter, he should be better at creating some space for a midrange shot. Jab step, dribble shoot or step back off the jab to get space. He's shown glimpses of it, but by no means is he a consistent shot creator for himself, IMO.

I will remind people that he is from Mississippi and that people from Mississippi are 1000x more baws than people from any other state.
