What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

Watched the Kuzma DX video... stroke looks smooth, but I'm trying to rectify that with the bad percentages during the year. Did he shoot a lot of threes off the dribble.

Not sure we can really get him at #42, but if we could I like the value there better than Leaf, Lydon, or Wilson at 24. If we keep our picks I think we end up with Evans and whichever combo forward is left at 30.

You think we'd take Evans at 24?

I like him... he's been mocked around there. He's a productive shot creator... more of a prototypical pg. Good steal rate and rebound rate for his size. We had him in for a workout (not like it means much).

I think the Jazz are preparing to replace Favors. So a 4/5 big at 24 makes a lot of sense unless someone obvious falls. I have some doubts about DJ Wilson until I see more handle and passing. Jury's out on Bolomboy.

Frank Jackson at 30 might make sense. I question whether they'll draft an undersized PG like Evans unless he's really awesome.

Total darkhorse pick would be Hartenstein as a project stretch-5.

I hope we don't make a mistake drafting for current need. the prospect needs to have a long-term projected role or path to playing time, but I think we can get pf/c fairly cheap or Bolomboy can handle spot duty.

If they think Bam, Bell, etc. are best available go for it. Evans was the focal point of a really good offense. He has some warts, but he brings a different dynamic to our current stable of pgs and could be the long-term answer if Dante fizzles.

The Jazz have a need everywhere. I dont think there is a single position we are set in.

PG: We probably need another one. Neto is the only signed past 2018

Wings: We definitely need more, currently the only wing we have who is on the roster past 2018 is Alec Burks. Even if we re-sign Ingles/Hayward, that's still only 3 wings signed past 2018 (even less if you think their is an impending Burks dump).

PF:Only Trey Lyles is signed past 2018.

C: We have Gobert and Bolomboy past 2019

Part of the reason having FA after the draft sucks.

Which is why you go BPA... maybe give more priority to position scarcity or upside if players are rated similarly.

I like him the most out of everyone. I wouldn't mind taking him at 24 but a part of me doesn't see it happening.

The Jazz will draft to complement what they have and what they want to fo. A few players really stand out as being good fits --

-- Zach Collins isn't in our range, but the Jazz would love to have a stretch 4/5 who can play both with and without Gobert and step out to defend the screen/roll like Favors did against the Clippers. If the Jazz somehow got him, they'd be ecstatic. I'm not sure if Jeanne can do this or not.

-- Donovan Mitchell would give the Jazz a two-way guard who can get all the way to the rim and possibly run pick and roll while being able to space the floor and guard switches. Maybe Frank Jackson can do this too, not sure. The Jazz need someone who can get to the rim. This is the only downside with George Hill.

-- The Jazz can always use a versatile 6'8" wing who can shoot, defend, pass, create, etc. This is why I really like Kurucs and could eventually get talked into Justin Jackson.

Any chance Kennard drops to us?

He worries me. He will be a shooter no doubt but I wouldn't want to talk him in the lotto mid teens. The combo of lack of length and lack of athleticism have me worried. If he fell to 24 I'd take him for sure but I don't see it happening and I wouldn't trade up for him.
