Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Sekou Doumbouya | 6-foot-9 | SF/PF

France (via Guinea) | Age: 17.1

After leaving much to be desired when we scouted him with his club in France earlier this year, Doumbouya stood out as the top prospect to take the floor in L.A. Auditioning for a host of NBA execs for the first time, Doumbouya played with much more energy than we've seen in the past, using his tremendous physical tools to defend multiple positions while flashing his versatile skill set on the offensive end. With a 6-11 wingspan, 210-pound frame and an 8-11 standing reach, Doumbouya has more than adequate size to play the power forward spot in the modern NBA, yet he has the foot speed to defend on the perimeter and the budding skill set to play with the ball for stretches on offense. From a sheer size and length standpoint, he compares to Paul George (at age 20.2) and Thaddeus Young (at age 19.0), though he has a body type that could trend closer to Carmelo Anthony or Jabari Parker as he gets older.

Although he still has a tendency to miss boxouts or defensive assignments, Doumbouya was vocal in drills and did a great job of temporarily answering the questions about his effort and intensity. He has the potential to be a defensive stopper who can check up to four positions and watching him buy into that notion was beneficial for his draft stock moving forward. Offensively, Doumbouya is a blank slate, which is part of what makes him so intriguing. He shoots a really easy ball with great rotation and soft touch, he handles the ball comfortably in the open floor and he's an above-average athlete around the rim, even showing some ability to extend with his off hand for finishing attempts around length. Doumbouya could trend anywhere from a stretch-4 type to a playmaking wing, as his ball-handling and passing in space looked greatly improved with more freedom than he has with Poitiers. While France is full of talent, prospect development can often become stagnant, and it was certainly beneficial to see Doumbouya in a different setting among his age group. He looked every bit of a potential top-five pick. -- Mike Schmitz

New Mexico's Makauch Malauch balled all over UNLV today.. Not saying he compares to Zach LaVine but thats kinda my reaction to this kid, as y'all will recall I was super early on the LaVine train and was pointing out when he was barely ranked in DX's freshman rankings, and listed at 6'3"... Obvious pro flying way under the radar. He's probably my favorite player in all of college.

Alize Johnson really interests me. REALLY.

Any reason he can't play the 4 in the NBA?

Dude is a spitting image of Jimmy Butler too.

Okay, write it down.

Alize Johnson is my must-draft sleeper in this draft. Love this kid. Everything about him. I have a feeling his standing reach and wingspan will leave a bit to be desired but IDGAF.

Agree with what has been said about Vanderbilt. Shot looks broken- hard to say if he'll ever be able to shoot it.

Also love Thomas out of Creighton. Can shoot, defend and has a nice feel for the game.

My favorite sleeper is still Robinson out of BC. Reminds me a ton of Rip Hamilton. Love how he moves without the ball, can defend, handle and pass. While he's a pretty great shooter from distance, like Rip he's just a killer from inside the arc. Of course in the league he'll need to use the 3pt shot more often, but his ability to score at all three levels will prove useful.

It's funny cuz I know they had him somewhere completely absurd on their 2019 mock not too long ago, like outside of the lottery, maybe even in the 20's range..

It's been rather apparent to me, and many others, that he's a greater prospect than Jabari... I've seen him play a bunch already, I read a david hein article about this kid like 5 years ago..

Hard pass to the highest possible degree.

If you cant average a block or a steal per game in that conference as a NBA prospect, then wow. The guy has an unfathomably bad steal percentage to where it's almost laughable. His team is 1 game out of last place in his conference for crying out loud. I'm a process over results guy most of the time, but when the results are as bad as they are with Johnson, I cant over look them. He is another product of the Adidas Nations Camp hype. He is small ball 4 who can neither defend at a high level or shoot.

Dylan Windler is 10x the prospect he is, IMO, if we are comparing mid-major sleepers.

Melvin Frazier's defense reminds me of the Claw. Almost flawless on D and can contribute to any NBA team from day one. If he can get those jumpers to fall...

It's Monday. Don't break my spirit so early in the work week. I'm riding or dying with this ************.

It's just super weird. I'm not sure anyone has a lower steal percentage in college basketball among players who people view as NBA prospects. i assume it's part of the scheme that they run defensively, but even then, it's crazy that he doesnt luck into more steals with how athletic/big he is compared to the competition he faces.

RealGM has him at 82/92 on all teams from the stripe this year!! 91% in BBL play!

AST/TO ratio could use a lot of work tho, he's so young tho, u basically gotta treat him like he's a year younger than all the freshman, cuz he pretty much is.

I think Bonga just needs to grow into his body, tbh. Wait til he fills out a bit. He'll be 6'10" with a 7' wing-span and some legit ball skills. He won't really play PG in the league, but in a motion offense where everyone is passing and cutting, he could be really effective. He can pass over the top of the defense and use his long strides to get to the rim. He's not unlike Exum in that regard. He's got great hands and some subtle timing that comes from running PG for years.

The thing that made Andrei Kirilenko so effective on offense before DWill took over was his mobility and creativity for a guy with that size and length. AK was never really a shooter, but he was a unique talent 15 feet in. He could score at the rim, run pick-and-rolls, set people up with clever bounce passes, etc. It wouldn't take too much for Bonga to do some of that, basically running pick-and-roll action like Joe Ingles does.

When I watched him a year or so ago, it looked like he was tripping over his own feet, but now he's starting to mature a bit.
