What's new

Following Potential 2018 Draftees

He has a hard time getting by people. He lacks change of speed and doesn't have much burst. If he did have these things, he'd be great.
I don't think there is much difference there between him and most of the other wing prospects in the first round.

Not to mention, he projects as a 3 and D guy in the league, like many of these propects in the Jazz range. If you get a rotation 3 and D guy at 21, you've done very well. With his length and shooting i like him better than guys like Huerter or Donte, to give a couple examples.

What's not to like about Milton? Productive scorer, good assist numbers, good size, elite length, excellent shooting numbers all three years at SMU, 60% TS last year, 43% from 3, good defender. Seems like the perfect player in today's league.

I mean i get if you don't love him, but i don't see what there is to flat dislike.

He was awful at the combine. During the scrimmages he went scoreless through 2 games and I think he was a combined 0 for 12 shooting. He also skipped the athletic tests and that worry's me. I think he's a second round pick and I will be absolutely sick if the Jazz take him when there are so many other good prospects in this years draft.

Fair explanation. sample size matters. But i get it.

If Atlanta has someone they like I think they’d do 30 and 34 for 21 not sure I’d do it... depends on what is left.

I'd probably trade #21 for #30, #34 and Atlanta's 2nd for next year. You know that thing will probably be in the low 30's.

The best deal is probably with Philly: #21 and #52 for #26, #38 and #39. Seems fair...

I have a strong feeling about Troy Brown Jr. I wish he could grow another inch or two, but I like him almost as much as I liked Paul George in 2010. He's got the vision, feel, strength and length to be really solid, imo. This year he was adjusting to being a wing shooter, whereas in high school he always had the ball in his hands and could get to the rim at will. He was never a guy that was asked to spot up in the corner or on the break. I think he's going to be a versatile 2-way player and the shooting will be there for him. If his athleticism proves to be good enough, he's going to be very good.

He's the same height without shoes as Jimmy Butler and has more length. He just isn't quite as twitchy. He may not have the size, length and shooting that Kevin Knox has, but his versatility and ball skills make him a similar-caliber propspect, imo.

If you look at excellent 3pt shooting on high attempts over a three year period, Milton has very few peers in this draft. Probably have to consider him one of the top 5 shooters in the draft.

43% as a frosh on 4 attempts
42% as a soph on 5 attempts
43% as a senior on 6 attempts

85% FT shooter as a senior too.

Those are big time shooting numbers.

He has the 3 point shot for sure, he has the assists, he has the steals.

I don’t think either team does the deal though... unless the love love love someone at 21. Not a ton of difference between 21 and 26. U could likely get 26 and 38... but 52 has like zero trade value.

Not worried about some of his measurements?

26.0 vert. Worst was 25.0.

Max vert of 33 inches. Worst was 31.0.

3/4 sprint of 3.33 seconds. Worst was 3.40.

And so forth.

He definitely has below average athleticism. It stands out. That would be a red flag to me.

I tried really hard to like Brown but he is my “meh” pick of the 2018 draft.

I think he’ll be one of those guys in 8 years where you look back and forgot all about him and he isn’t in the league anymore.

At 30 there won't be much left. You would really be throwing darts, heck at 21 we'll be throwing a dart but at least have one eye open.
For me, 30 is at the very end of where a couple of good prospects *may* be available. 38 there is basically nothing that isnt a dart toss.

Actually you’d be throwing two darts instead of one...

Not to mention he was 29.1% from three point range and only 74.1% from the FT line which doesn't give great confidence in his ability to improve as an outside shooter. His TS%, eFG% an FG% were all bad too. So was his ast/to ratio 3.2/2.5. And his PER/WS/ box +-numbers too. I just don't see it with Brown at all. He's one of the few guys who could be there at 21 that I hope we avoid.

Looking at players with comparable athletic numbers at the Combine, I come up with guys like Devin Booker, Aaron Harrison, Sam Dekker. Yeah, he has middling athleticism, but he can work on it.

His 3-pt shooting will improve. Hayward shot 29% as a soph, so did Jaylen Brown. He just needs reps. Again, he's not a guy who shot a lot from deep in HS.

Edit: More athletic comparables --Al-Foruq Aminu and Evan Turner.

Hayward's max vert was 34.5" with a 3-inch shorter wingspan.
