Following Potential 2025 Draftees

The Jazz have never won the lottery, so we really dont know if a college aged super-star is faced with the certain truth that he is going to Utah if he would stay or return to college.

Flagg, a white guy from Maine, announcing he is returning to school after Utah wins the lottery, would be extremely devastating.
The biggest irony would be if he goes back and then falls to #5 in 2026 and still gets drafted by the jazz.

Tre Johnson with 32 points and 9 rebounds in a win against #15 Kentucky

He might be closer to 3 than 5 for me right now. I would have a long conversation about him vs Ace Bailey at 3.

With Bailey's shooting percentages catching up to Tre's, I think Bailey would get the nod from most teams, in part due to the defensive upside. But I'd be happy to have Tre on our team. He'd be our best offensive player right away. We'd still need one of these alpha wings, like Dybantsa or Boozer, but Tre would be a very solid Robin to someone's Batman.

He would not be the Jazz's best player offensively right away...

I like him and think he has a lot of potential, but he isn't NBA ready to that extent. Didn't all your ********* you spouted about how good Cody would be from Day 1 at stuff he can't even do teach you anything?

Cody was never going to be ready on day 1. Everyone knows he's a development project. And no, the Jazz don't have a better offensive player than Tre Johnson.

Brother I can bump post about how you said Cody would be getting to the rim and creating his own shot from Day 1.

Tre, as a rookie, is not better offensively than Lauri, Collins, Keyonte, or Sexton next year. This is the kind of analysis I expect from someone who just started scouting any draft yesterday.

And I love Tre, but he's not even shooting 40% from the field in college conference play.

Tre could be our best offensive prospect, but that's even an incredible reach because I doubt he ever becomes better than Lauri.

Great, go do it. I always said that Cody needed to add strength and tighten his handle and that it would take some development work, especially when he showed up at the Combine weighing ~180 lbs.

And any rational person who has followed this stuff for years know that doesn't happen over the course of a few months...

I think Tre is probably on par/maybe even ahead of Ace as an offensive prospect…I think Ace has more potential on defense and just has a much more impressive physical profile.

I think Ace’s effort and defense kind of comes and goes, but if the interviews/intel are good on him I could see him being a good defender in the league.

the jazz shouldnt have played cody at all this year. he was not ready body was not ready. his arms were bigger than his legs. he not only skipped leg day he never did leg day. he needs to be 210 lbs before he played. after getting his body right he needs to work on speeding up his release. its smooth, but slow.motion. soo slow he cant get it off without a strong contest.

Not how it works

I really do think that Cody frailness was a distraction from his overall lack of ability. Yes, in theory a young player can/will gain weight (though he is legitimately 15+ lbs away from being 15+ lbs away). But if he was built like Adonis, he still can't shoot, he's not fast, his handle is weak, and of course he would still have an extremely low motor.

It's interesting to think about how the "very obvious concern" effects our view of players. In Cody's case, he had an obvious concern but there's reason to be optimistic about that specific concern and it may have lead us to overlooking the other less obvious (but still obvious in hindsight) concerns. With Collier, his obvious concern was shooting and there wasn't a lot of hope there. But our pessimistic view of his shooting (which is valid) made us overlook that he actually had very strong traits.

I guess what I'm saying here is that even when there is some obvious concern about a player, don't fixate on it so much that you ignore the other aspects of a player. I believe that we correct in stating Cody's weight and Collier's shooting as their biggest concerns, but in hindsight it probably played too large of a part in our evaluation of them.

Early in the season, the Jazz dropped Cody in the deep end so he can see just how far behind he is. They said, "Here, go guard Ja Morant. Go guard Devin Booker. Go guard Chris Paul. Etc." Now he's got a list of things he needs to work on, and what he does with the next 18 months will determine whether he has an NBA future. I don't mind the approach the Jazz are using. I hope he responds to it. It's going to require some mental toughness.

All his life coming up the ranks, Cody was able to just waltz his way to the rim, or hit an open mid-range jumper. Now he needs to really work hard if he wants to have a chance. Whether it happens for him is anyone's guess.

To your point though, I don't think Jerry Sloan would have put Cody on the floor.
